Not that I saw. I'll give it a try and see how it handles once they release the X2 demo. If it's not a massive leap I might be in with a chance like with X1.

Looks really interesting, but I'm actually already running X1 on a machine with specs below the minimum (without performance issues) so I'm not sure my aging DAW is going to handle it.

Did the video mention any minimum specs for x2?

None mentioned.

I'll expect that if your current system handles X1D expanded then it should be good to go ....

Well, the new audio engine is 64 bit
384 Khz...but it still doesn't seem to be gapless..

It says...addresses gapping in common operations..

Anyone have a 384 capable interface?

I wish, Here is the one someone can get me  http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Trinity?utm_source=none&utm_medium=PPC&utm_campaign=none&gclid=CNGPv7H4x7ECFWVvTAod7kYAWg

Okay so it seems quite a few people here believe there will be some kind of ultra cheap deal upon first release with some even stating it might be $50 for Expanded users (which I am). If that is the case what I'd like to do is (if I can scrounge the dough up) purchase the upgrade but not install it right away. That way I'm not interrupting my current work/learning curve and I don't get hit with any potential bugs/problems. I'd then keep an eye on the forum to see how every one is making out and let the knowledge base for X2 build up to a point where if I encounter problems it is more likely it has already been figured out by other users. I might even wait until the first patch to install it. Would that work? Does Cakewalk allow you to do things like this? And please guys, don't jump all over me again... I'm just trying to figure out my best options here. I am a completely new Cakewalk user so this is the first time I've ever dealt with their upgrade procedures. Peace.

Just fix the snap in score view and provide users the the option of using traditional music notation icons and I might be happier with X2 than my unused X1.

P.s. a lot of programming talent are now available since the Sibelius uk office closed...

@elffin... I'm a little surprised they didn't attempt to do something for the Staff View folks. Seems like people have been requesting this for a loooong time. I haven't fiddled with it too much yet but I'd like to. I haven't really run into TOO many issues but one thing that was glaringly messed up was the guitar chord diagram thingy. What is up with that? It's like it's on bath salts or something. SV is not exactly my preferred method of writing but I would like to use it when teaching.

Sadly Cakewalk doesn't care about the Staff View.  I've been wanting improvements for years and they just ignore it.

@vintagevibe... It seems really odd as so many people have asked for it. I was thinking maybe they could let a third party company develop a dockable add on for those who want it. Might sort out the issue once and for all.

Who knows, perhaps the end of August may bring a miraculous surprise notice on this. The good thing is that these other people have their upgrade offer available until Aug 31st, so timing seems to work fine on my end. VST3 and score editing don't seem to be features they've elected to ignore, I guess for a reason. So I feel a bit like a big fool at this point having just sat on my bottom for this long......

@Beepster - If you buy it when it comes out, I would install it and start using it right away. X2 will be an improvement over X1 and will have a lot of enhancements that will speedup the workflow. Since you will already know your way around X1, the new features and enhancements shouldn't get in the way of your sessions. Plus, as you go a long - you learn something new each session. I doubt X2 will be as buggy as X1's release. Now if you plan on not upgrading then it makes absolute sense to keep using what you already have. If you upgrade early, even with a discount - it most likely will be cheaper by the time you decide to install it. So lets say you upgrade in Sept. for $99 which is the speculated for Expanded users price. By December, it will be on sale for $49 and by the Spring it will be $10. See what I'm getting at Beepster? Only get it when you're ready to install it and when there's a deal that fits your wallet.

Not only that, if you persist with and learn X1 thoruoghly, by the time you get round to installing X2, you might have to un-learn a bunch of stuff.

@skylightron... Well it may end up working out that way anyway considering how tight money is right now. There are some features in it that are intriguing to me like the automation lanes and the PC Console thingy (what exactly does that do?) but I am a little wary of stability so I'd like to see what others say about it first. If it will indeed drop in price in the manner you are stating then yeah... I'd wait for the ultra deals. I was just thinking about doing it the way I said because it was mentioned that upon absolute first release it might be significantly cheaper. I'll just have to see how everything plays out I guess.

@Jonesy... and that is certainly a concern as well. I'm also worried the forum will move on to mostly discussing X2 and I'll be stuck fiddling around with X1. It's all moot at this point anyway though because we don't even know what the pricing will be. Cheers.

@Beepster... "I'll just have to see how everything plays out I guess." Yes Beepster, the ball should always be in your court. And if the ball bounces and you're able to make plays... Play on! You can still learn everything you can about X2 through these forums and the Sonar University videos while X2 is updated with new patches. The good thing about X2 is that it's based off of X1 and is not a total revamp like what X1 was to 8.5. Next Fall, they will most likely release an Expanded version of X2 or X3 will be out. They've always offered an upgrade each year, last year was Expanded. So it's really up to you when you're ready to take the bite.

Looking great so far, excited about Automation Lanes and Auto Zoom.

But surely, the most important question is, will there be a Sonar coffee mug available to buy too??

Dammit I want that coffee mug!! ;)

That is my laptop 8 gigs of ram stock never needed to upgrade. bought it in February I have reinstalled windows and the problems never really changed I did since that post do a cache update that Samsung released recently and now Sonar at least opens and runs ok but the vst scanner crashes everytime I try to use it. No other dongles I try to keep my setup dongle free but I love Reason and its my favorite music making program (sorry Cakewalk) so the ignition key was worth dealing with for me. No other copy protection other than the software e licenser on my system for a few arturia synths I am demoing. Balance works with Asio4all but its own drivers are much better. I did a system back up and restore about a month ago maybe 2 months. That avast was a headache to get rid of though had to contact their support to do a clean uninstall Cakewalk tech support said that any anti virus will screw up Sonar. I couldn't install it completely at one point but since doing that update i was able to at least get a successful install of X1a and I am currently downloading B C and D so I can be on the latest update and maybe even ditch my issues with the vst scanner which is a new issue that usually does not happen in Sonar. But since updating my Cache deal from Samsung I have had no problems with Sonar besides the vst scanner *knock on wood* if I can get Sonar working as advertised 85-95% of the time (i am a 10 year reason owner I am spoiled by stability) I will preorder X2 Producer just to show I have no ill feelings towards Cakewalk though I know release updates are buggier than an ant farm
That does sound rough.  hmmm..  The problems you are having, sound beyond my ability to help you solve.  I hope things get better for you

Cheers

synkrotron

I will be really tempted to upgrade to X2 as soon as it comes out, and hopefully, any current issues I am having (such as my Rapture problem discussed elsewhere) will be fixed in X2.

I might, however, wait until Windows 8 is properly released. X2 is compatible with W8, and I think it would be better to upgrade both at the same time, therefore not having to re-install X2 when the new OS comes out...

its all good thanks for trying

@Beepster... "I'm also worried the forum will move on to mostly discussing X2 and I'll be stuck fiddling around with X1." Dang Beepster, that's a concern of mine too. I think that will happen and all X1 users will be migrated to the Sonar/Producer Forum where users frequent it less often. In a sense, we're stuck in a predicament - do we buy in now and take a monetary hit or do we stay behind using older, out of date software that may not generate the volume of support that it use to generate while also taking a learning curve hit when some things have been improved upon in the newest version. That's why Cakewalk will help us all get on board so we're not left behind using older and outdated coded software. And by this, I mean they will offer us some deals.

SonarPlus? That remains to be seen... I know there will be no new version of that, but here's hoping I won't need it?

Keni
Keni--Oh how I wish you were wrong; I love my SonarPlus and use it all the time.  But now that it's creator is working for Cake we can hope that he will have some influence on putting some of its ease of use features into X2.  I love his blank page insert.  Sometimes I just want to fiddle around and not have a named project.  In X1 I always had to choose a name for a file and it slowed me down.  SonarPlus had that little icon of a blank page I could click on and voila I was into Sonar and noodling around and having fun.

I do not there will be some color options.  While this darker shade looks nice, with my old eyes, I sometimes need to tweak the colors to get better visibility and Sonarmods helped immensely.  Hopefully Panu will help us out some when the time arrives.

@skylightron... I can see benefits of both approaches to this upgrade and I think at the moment I'm sitting right on the fence with it. I wish I had a computer that could see the forum comments 6 months in the future to read up on how smoothly and beneficial a transition to X2 will be. Sadly Bill Gates keeps that technology safely locked away in his evil underground lair. *shakes fist at MS*

Well since I just ordered the book " Sonar X1 power" Monday, I'll probably wait a bit. Beepster your not alone brother, I bought Sonar X1 producer in April or May (can't remember exactly) for $349 then upgraded to expanded for $49. The next week expanded went on sale for $ 19. I decided then I wasn't going to buy any of the modules untill I found something I really needed, and only then for a good price. I haven't bought anything since. I'm not mad at Cakewalk at all, actually I've been very pleased with the stability and performance of X1d producer expanded.

Good point Skylightron. I am debating on grabbing this deal since I was already on the fence about upgrading to producer expanded anyway. This deal to get Producer X1 and get X2 Producer free may fit the bill for me.

Hmm...  That sounds like that what Ctrl+N does by default.   I never start a project by selecting a template, I just use Ctrl+N which results in an empty, unnamed project.

@clintmartin... Yeah, I'm not actually upset as that's just how the cookie crumbles but I was concerned at first and rightfully so I think. Some folks took my questions as bashing or whining but I was just looking for info as I am completely new to the Sonar way and info was provided. Now I can make a more educated decision as to how I want to proceed and for that I thank you guys. And just so folks know when they see my handle I hope they realize I am actually an extremely reasonable fellow but I am also a realist. I only purchase quality products which serve a purpose. That is why I bought Sonar. I think it's great and it fits in perfectly for what I want to do. However being a realist if something smells fishy or a service/product being provided no longer meets my needs then I don't hold any kind of blind loyalty to ANY company. I'll just figure something else out. It's just business. Feelings or emotion should not come into play. So yes... if you see me posting I'm usually trying offer advice or receive advice myself and sometimes toss in the occasional bit of humor. No bashing, no angst. I've got plenty of other places on the internet to go to to fulfill those needs. ;-p

Do instrument tracks have Phase and Interleave?  I would think that's controlled by the synth itself, not the track settings?
