Cakewalk is sure the last one to ask for more of x64. Even its x32 plugins work enormously stable via BitBridge.

Not to be nit-picky, since I agree with everything else you wrote, but I find working with BitBridge unpleasant, and it introduces a number of other issues --- I'd much rather have all the Cakewalk bundle plugins fully x64 if possible. But your points about contacting the 3rd party vendors are spot-on and I think Jose (and those that are adding links to this thread like you) are doing us all a service by consolidating all this info so we can more easily help push the vendors.

To be able to go fully 64 bits would be very nice...

But, Finale - any version (still on 2005 atm), only supports 32 bit o/s's, and I compose in Finale (now if Sonar had even a usable notation window for composing [not talking about printing], that would possibly provide another option, but that is also way OT for this thread ).

BTW: IK is not Kontakt's developer, it's NI. And yes, they've been working on x64 stuff, supposedly. I think a couple of them are in beta already, but I haven't been following it. And I wouldn't know a reliable way to get in touch with them either. I've NEVER had any luck getting any response out of them, EVER, and I've been an NI customer for years and years. :( But one can just hope that the rumors of x64 are accurate.

eratu, well they are working on the "64 bitness" (as borrowed from a certain member of Intel staff ). It happens one of the NI moderators is also a sonar user (EW) and he is a regular visitor here as well as the NI forum. I'm surprised they haven't offered him a job to be totally honest. Errmm I have contacted NI about things and they did get back to to me quickly, so different experience I guess.

Good to hear. I went through the Komplete Kare fiascos and even after that, they still kept tripping over themselves to make more mistakes. I gave up trying to get a good response out of them. That's actually why I never jumped on the Kore bandwagon... I've cut the cycle with them to things I just need. But maybe they have changed, or maybe I just had bad luck. Anyway, I actually didn't mean anything really negative by my post though. Ironically, for all my negative personal experiences with NI, I can't live without them. And when they release x64 stuff, I will naturally be forced to upgrade, since I have so many projects and libraries that depend on them. It's a pretty strange relationship... a company I dislike for all the hassle, wasted time, broken projects, and bi-polar ups and downs, but a sound I rely upon and even love in some cases.

this is very off topic (sorry Jose) , but eratu, I use komplete and kore. I wanted kontakt and a few more synths and it worked out cheaper that way.. so I treated myself to kore, it wasn't cheap to buy in the short term, but in the long term works out cheaper.

try the kore player, that's free and will link up things you previously own to do some crazy things (in a good way) . I know what you mean about the NI sounds.. same goes as well with the Props things (for me)

So I rather recommend on tickling the 3rd party soft/hardware developers/vendors to produce x64 plugins and stable x64 drivers.
while personally working in Vista x64, I really have no concerns to Cakewalk regarding x64.

Now, before you guys go ahead filling these up, just wanted to let you know that Toontrack is working on a 64 bit version of Superior Drummer 2. IK Multimedia is also working on a 64 bit version of Kontakt 3. Good luck with Waves (it's worth a shot though).

Great job with creating a list like this, Jose.... this could really become a spectacular thread. May I humbly suggest placing all this great info you are amassing in the OP?

BTW: IK is not Kontakt's developer, it's NI. And yes, they've been working on x64 stuff, supposedly. I think a couple of them are in beta already, but I haven't been following it. Thanks Eratu! Let's just hope people are actually writting to these guys . Your suggestion has been granted.

BTW: I was just testing if you guys would catch that. Of course I knew IK is not Kontakt's developer .

Hi Freddie!

This is really nice to hear. The last time I contacted NomadFactory a couple of months ago, they only told me they have no defined dates for 64-bit.
Let's hope 2009 means Winter Namm 2009 or at least the spring Musikmesse and not somethig like Christmas 2009

As to their 32-bit plugins and BitBridge, some of them still work fine: Analog Signature Pack, BlueVerb, Rock Amp Legends, and THANKFULLY BBE D82 Sonic Maximizer

It seems we're talking about software 64 bit support, but how about drivers for hardware? I'm talking TC Electronics Powercores. They JUST put out Vista 32 bit beta drivers and have no real plans for 64 bit Vista drivers. XP64 from TC? Fuhgedaboudit.

dose any one know that Microsoft is developing a whole new OS, Instead of fixing vista there going to abandon it like MS Me and 2000. So as far as 64 bit who cares right now..Fix all the other issues with sonar..Sonar implemented 64 bit with bit bridge, its now up third parties to develop drivers.. I wont upgrade to vista as it wont be here in a year..Not like Apple when the older os will still work on the computer.. Think about that...

jHART,

We all know about Windows 7 and it will take M$ some time before it is stable, just like with any new OS's. As far as 64 bit goes, I care and so does most people who've replied to this thread. Nobody's saying Cakewalk should stop fixing bugs either (this was answered on page 1 of this thread actually). Sonar did not implement 64 bit with Bitbridge and we're not asking for 64 bit drivers either (you got all this backwards sir). And Vista won't just disappear because a new OS came out. M$ will still support Vista for some time after Windows 7 comes out, just like they have with all previous OS they've released so far. I'm not sure where you're getting your info but it's totally wrong. You're the ones who needs to think about it .

Peace!

Great thread. I'm all about it.

It would be nice to have a well-maintained list of:
- who and what is 64bit now
- who we're going to harrass until they give us 64bit stuff

Maybe 2 sections, or should the "who and what is 64bit now" be a separate thread?

It's been difficult to track and keep up with, since everyone's looking at different things at different times, but to me knowing what's 64bit already adds fuel to the emails and posts to those who are not 64bit yet.
Kind of like: "When are you guys going to get on with it, like x, y and z already has?"

I'll tweak my earlier argument that it will take 32bit abandonment on the part of the OS providers, and add that if we're loud enough, we can get them to all bend to our will.
Moo hoo hahahahahaha...

Thanks for your support Howard. And thanks for providing the Voxengo Win64 VST list, that's very cool.

I've actually just recieved an email from Aleksey saying that they are currently working on more 64 bit releases of their plugs (yes!!!). I also got word from Toontrack and URS.

Toontrack says that they're not sure when (or if) the EZ line will get ported over to 64 bit but SD2 will get ported at some point (yet uncertain). As for URS, they say they "fully support 64bit hosts" which doesn't really tell me what I want to know. Maybe if someone using URS plugins in Sonar 64 can confirm that they are actually 64 bit native I will remove the link to their contact site. But so far that's all I've gotten. Keep writing guys and gals :-)

Take care!

Lots of companies unfortunately say they support 64bit hosts when they really mean: "we'll install and run 32bit on 64bit hosts," which to me is completely different.
I'm still not sure izotope is x64, since that's exactly what they say too.

Anybody know:

Great idea Zevo!!

It's probably better to keep it all in one place though so I'll start the "who and what is 64bit now" list and add it to my first post. I personally went with the "Windows/DAWs that are already 64 bit" approach, but yours is much better. I will get to it ASAP.

Take care!

Native Instruments will be releasing the public beta of Kontakt 3 x64 in December
PSP used to make great plugins but the company is pretty much dormant these days. Don't expect much result from there. Shame.
Aleksey has already released some x64 plugs and they work very nicely.
The isotope plugins are also Native x64 and work really well.
Synthogy is developing a 64 bit Ivory
Play x64 is fabulous and really works well.
Spectrasonics are completely lagging behind and their memory hog Omnisphere brings Bitbridge to a grinding halt.

Done! Check first post.

NOTE: The list only includes synths/plugins that come in version 7. I'd be great if anyone who has S8 x64 installed can add the bitness of the new bundled synths/plugins left.
