My initial impressions are that I like it.

I also like that I can go back to the old color scheme if I wanted to.

Really? Maybe the bakers should consider getting an artist who understands pallets! It's apparent to me that a programmer is trying to get SpLat to look good...  Yea! That's NOT going to work! Orange and black... Halloween!?
and nothing else looks right together... lol
Maybe you should start over with a basic UI in black, white and levels for grey as the default then the user can chose a base color/s to fill in the greys. Cakewalk, you want the best!? it needs to look the best and the person you have messing it up now cannot get it done! YOU NEED an ARTIST!

I can't believe there are 2 pages of follow-up comments legitimizing this post. . .

Everyone has that need to bash the TROLL.... even you.  lol

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's a troll post... but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's not a troll post either

I'm actually enjoying Mercury now that we have an extended choice of colors.

I really like Tungsten, but will be glad to have some ability to tweak colors for contrast.  I'm allergic to orange too, but it has grown on me a bit.

All things considered, I think this is a huge move in the correct direction.

His avatar is good in its own way. Its better to move ahead with constuctive posts.  My meters are green too. Why do some users have grey meters. Is there an option to change that. I love the green meters though. Would never want to change it. But just wondering why some have it grey.

The Grim
i don't think and wouldn't say it looks like crap, i wasn't sure about some of the color choices myself, but hey, i still think it looks quite good. it reminds me very much of a couple of reaper custom themes. the only time people will ever be 100% pleased by something is when they have the ability to change the bits they don't like to be how they want them. if you are like me and couldn't really be bothered nor have the desire to be learning to do that and would prefer to be playing and recording you take what you get, get use to it and carry on. sonar isn't even my main daw and i don't use it much any longer, but i do think the lifetime membership is pretty awesome (i jumped on that straight away), and this latest release seems pretty good (although i haven't installed the final official yet, just the early release), the first time i have updated since manchester. i still stay with my other daw and keep an eye on sonar, after all in for life now with no added extra cost (extras excluded)

Hey, yea just let me work! but when I booted 2016. 5... man what I see was mush... I reset the meters myself and that fine, and I will fish though the weeds and be happy creating! :) so that makes me happy. but sometime CW needs to know what people other then the peanut gallery things... BTW, I have been really happy with lots of stuff coming out... :) but I don't normally waste my days here telling the world... CW is so close now to perfection in my view for my needs that, I want to push at them and poke them to get the UI to ROCK! as I am just hanging at home, multi tasking on here and with other stuff... more just for fun then anything... got a busy few weeks of nothing going on but fun! and it started here! lol

Ok- I for one am tired of this. What is with the "Just what the peanut gallery likes," who the hell are you?  we are the customer base-can you SEE that? ego much....Please don't respond...

Sorry you didn't like it. From what I have seen, most of the comments have been positive. Colors are always subjective. I don't think we can definitively say, for a fact, that one color is better than another because all you need is one person to say it's not true. Good news is you aren't forced to use it and soon enough you can make your own. Definitely looking forward to seeing what you come up with for themes.

How the topic was started, was everything but constructive.

I think his avatar is very ugly. This to prove that it is all a matter of taste.
I don't like the way he stated his opinion.

Audio Meter customization in Preferences will change that (no segmented meters)

Apart from perhaps a slight toning-down of the orange/gold, I think it's nigh-on perfect.
Well done Cakewalk.

Hmmm-This is weird because I just logged in to comment on the UI when I saw this post. What I was going to say is-

Thank You Cake--For this old guy-Everything just seems much, much clearer-almost akin to a mix where everything sits well and can be heard. I see better than I have in a while. I am not so much talking colors-but the default-even the orange -everything seems much sharper - more defined. I guess maybe this only helps old guys like me but I love it. Lots of definition. Just my 2 cents

I just updated my S-Plat to 2016.05 and am very impressed. "Tungsten" looks awesome. I love it.

Some color changes could be made with external applications. Its a tedious process though. I just tried one change to modify the meter color from black to a sort of dark maroon shade in the console view. Here's how it looks :

Say man, I think the new Tungsten theme is really cool and all, but I'd like Mercury to stay around, too. And bring on more themes, Cake? I enjoy me some eye candy!

It seems Davey perhaps needs to complain a little less and learn a little more - choose Segmented Meters or change the colors of your current non-Segmented Meters.    It's really not all that difficult...

I'm using the segmented meters which are clear and easy to see.  I'm not sure that's how the solid meters are supposed to look.  Someone using solid meters will have to comment.

I really like Tungsten, but what would be really cool would be Tungsten with the "robin-egg blue" buttons from Mercury (I'm not a big "orange-gold" person most of the year).

They can call it "Merc-sten".  ("Tung-cury"?)

Or maybe an even deeper blue on the buttons?

Like: this color, both bright and deep. This would be hyper-cool for me.

When I updated, all my customized SPLAT Dark settings I created were plugged into Tungsten - track colors, meters, etc. ( Ilike the stripe identifier) If the fx bin plugin color is customizable to follow track color (clips already do), I'd be a 2 thumbs upper. Note the custom UAD Control Panel - my own touch. Thanks to UAD it fits perfectly there. lol
