No respect needed John T. Those summarizations do not reflect Mullys statements. Those specific problems have not been listed elsewhere. There is a large amount of misconception present when people are trying to figure out if they did something wrong or the software-hardware did something wrong. Add to that the **** posts mixed with feature requests and it's hard to say what is really going on till you try it your self. The list I asked for from Mully, I haven't seen yet.

Well, it's not my argument, I suppose. But me personally, I wouldn't feel especially obliged to write out lists for self-appointed forum police. I think this has all got bad tempered enough already without adding more on top.

I haven't appointed myself any police powers. Let's not insult each other John T. I'm just asking for some clear answers from those who **** but don't explain. This forum is for discussing ideas and problems .

Haha...fun times eh?

Crg this stuff has been going on for at least a year now so if you really really really must have a list then here's a thought. Install X2 and make your own, how's that for an idea?

If you are anywhere near Adelaide you are even welcome to pop in and have a looksee over a cold frothy with olive branches swinging from the ceiling.

Tell you what... I might even think about making a detailed summary especially for you... but I have a request, can you tell me what you are going to do with it? Are you going to try those stated items out for yourself? Produce some code that will correct the issue? Not sure exactly what you are looking for to be honest but by the use of your language (or hints of it anyway) I suspect you have a scowl on? I hope not.

Cake have stated they are aware of the issues and we thought they would be fixed. You want a list. Huh?

Is there some other explanation you are looking for that I'm missing the point on because in all seriousness I don't mind you being so pedantic about whatever it is you want to see in a list as long as you will use your powers for good. Is that fair?

Cheers all.... it's nearly Christmas! Ho ho?

Once again, guys, calm down!

This is not a place for getting personal, impolite or abusive. This forum is intended for helping each other and sharing best practises, workarounds, ideas and these kinda things. I found invaluable help and very precise instructions to solving some difficult issues, which would have taken me ages to figure myself. I truly hope it stays like this.

If you have a problem related to Sonar, 3rd party software, hardware, whatever ... go ahead and post. There are a lot of helpful people around responding, usually incredibly fast ...

If you have found a workaround that keeps us going to next update, please post.

But I don't think we yet need another list of (mostly known) problems, mixed with feature request. These are two different animals ... and Cake has a web form for this kind of feedback.

Even if you didn't bother to RTFM, asking here is OK. If you take all the options you get with Sonar, VS-700 and the plugs that come with it, you're way beyond 2000 pages and no one will remember the details of features he doesn't use every day.

Having said that ... RTFM is what I'm doing (yet again) with the VS-700 and I recommend that to some of guys. There's still sooo much you can do with the VS-700 R/C (not counting the broken channel strip**) and then there are all sorts of customizations ... plus some workarounds if you get creative ...

Thanks, Ryan, for stepping into this arena and showing that Cake still cares.

** I hate to repeat myself, but from what I read in the X2 forum, saw in the X32 demo, tested with the MCU ... there is no properly functioning channel strip section on any surface for X1/X2, so I'm positive that Cake will fix that ...

Hey Bertyl RTFM is a very good tip. I'd been re-reading some of Ryan's info last night even and got some overview that has helped a little at least.

The lack of a properly working surface is quite the concern in reality so surely Cake must have this up the priority list? I'm not sure that cake actually 'cares' as such but that's only my opinion based on nothing. The reality will be in the attention this issue gets and right now it surely must be costing them customers without having proper surface integration? I'm assuming this of course though.

Anyway, I'm keen to say sorry for any contribution I've made to the sharing of venom in any capacity around these parts hence the reference to olive branches and I think we are really all on the same page with where we are... just expressing it from different view points perhaps. The thought of losing a project to PT at the moment really frustrates me as one example but I'll just try and put more hours towards getting the job done. I hope at least some of the frustration can make sense in this context.

Anyways... will see how the next session goes!

Cheers all.

America is recognize as the country of the lawsuits... I was impressed to see outdoor propaganda of lawyer offices in America... This is forbiden in Brazil... And the law in Brazil is as slow as you can wonder...Is there any possibilities to move a lawsuit against CW if we end up with a white elephant in our studios? I mean, if yes, is it a stupid idea to mobilize ourselves for this?

You would probably have to move against the parent company being Roland. Class actions are very popular in the US LOL. An if this all ends up as is, then maybe it should be investigated.

Re:VS-700, SONAR X2, Where we (Cakewalk and You) are at 2012/12/13 19:49:36 (permalink)
Hi All,

I have a few issues to report;

SONAR X2 – with VS700 Control Surface
(There are a lot of issues… as you all are aware.)

VS700 Control Surface Plug-in: Vers 1.2
·         Windows 7 - 64-bit
·         SONAR Installation: 32-bit (To take advantage of plugins)

1.    Cannot locate a separate v1.3 Control Surface Plug-in as is provided with SONAR X1B Patch… Where is it… or how can I use the X1b Patch to get this plugin into X2???

Issues VS700 Jog/Shuttle Control…
1.    Jog/Shuttle control (in all modes; Acroll, Select Edit and the default... Transport) no longer functions.
With Edit, Scroll and Select modes off... the jog/shuttle wheels should default to transport mode...  this is not happening. This was functional after the original install, just stopped working

2.  Also when I enter Scroll or Select mode, I get the cursor... and can controll it with the ^,<,>,v buttons, but not with either of the jog or shuttle wheels. In transport mode the 4 buttons tab me through the track controls.

What i've done: Reinstalled the V1.2 Driver, cold boots (PC and VS700) this didn't work.

Issues programming VS700 ACT Channel Strip Controls…
1. Plug-in: PerfectSpace Reverb v1.4
    Can Program the following:
·         Dry Gain: Bank 1 – Gain/Level 1
·         Wet Gain: Bank 1 – Gain/Level 2
·         Wet Pan: Bank 1 – Gain/Level 3

    Cannot program:
·         Offset
·         Length
·         Delay

NOTE: Click ACT Learn, Touch plug-in Control w/mouse, turn knob on VS700, Click ACT learn again…
Message: 1 parameter, 1 control touched… Keep parameters? Click OK
Result: Parameters not saved. Channel strip display on VS700 not updated.

Additional ACT issues with Perfect Space Reverb:
2. Attempted to program Channel Strip Control buttons to control reverse, auto gain, in -> mono, left mono buttons on Perfect space.
Result: ACT commands/parameters not recognized, Channel Strip control display went south…
Display shows the following with NO header;
(Bank 1)               4K           0.0           -30dB                   0.8ms
(Bank 2)               0.5s        2.0          0.0                          100%
(Bank 3)               0.0          0.0          2000.0Hz
(Bank4 Channel Strip Control Buttons) No Function/Blank display
(for example: I wanted to use the Channel Strip Control buttons to enable volume, width, pan, lo pass, hi pass… etc. Can’t do it)

NOTE: there is NO paging using Page < > when this state is entered.
After examining values, it looks like a mish-mash of values from the PC4K – Bus Compressor
that was at the top of the particular pro-channel chain for the channel I had selected. Also, There is no bailing out of this state using Command + EQ… you have to click another plug-in in the pro-channel to get out of it, then you can never regain ACT control or display on the VS700.

Synth Rack Control:

1.  VS700 using command + < > does NOT Scroll to the next Synth in the Synth Rack any longer in X2. It does however scroll though pro-channel components.
2.   Command  + Synth Rack doesn’t open the selected Synth in X2.

X-Ray and Plugin focus:
1.    Once a plug-in has lost focus, using X-Ray (VS700 T-Bar), the plug-in remains connected to the Channel strip Control/Display section. However, if a pro-channel component is selected, and the plug-in is brought back into focus, then clicked, the plug-in "seems" to want to take control of the Channel Strip Control, the plagin name is passed back to the Display, then the Channel strip control reverts back to the 1st pro-channel component in the chain. You can never get control of the plugin again in the channel strip… most of the time you have to open to open and close the plug-in twice in order for it to be reflected in the Channel Strip Control/Display again. This is the case with many, if not all plug-ins.

 Console Automation:
1.   When going from Track View to Buss view, the faders do not always go to their known positions. This is moody!
When this happens, selecting a bus that is in focus (SEL button on channel) causes all faders in the selected fader group to recover their known positions.

Saving Groups:
1. Add a new group, add prochannel controls (lets say LF Gain on the EQ) from a few channels to the group. Everything stays with the current session... however the group does not save with the project.

So I tried selecting a few tracks with the mouse, in console view, Right clicked one of the channe sliders and created a new group.. saved and closed the project... re-opened the project and the group stuck, it was fine. Note that the pro-channel attempts left the new group with an astrisk next to the name... I would take this as an indications that the group has not been saved.

Well I guess that's enough for now... I've only had the thing a month, and now feeling like I purchased obsolete gear (for good money!)... bums me out! I was Cakewalk/SONAR all the way. Should I be questioning my decision?

Sorry for the length... but you asked. :-)

We need a user 1 - 10 list of things like above of what's broke with X2. I've heard a lot of different stuff, but I'm just as confused as Ryan on what exactly are folks referring to as a bug or what's broken in X2, other than general vague assessments. If everybody who identified a bug can list their bug as 1. this doesn't work. 2. that dosn't work. 3. etc, like above, than maybe CW can clearly see and test these issues while they're working on fixing what they can identify.

Yeah +1 Dyo.... it would be nice to use the Channel Strip Control section again.... it's part of what set the 700C apart. There is still a lot it can do which is part of why we are hanging on for the update... hanging on albeit by fingernails.

Hiya Frick... I've still got jog/shuttle wheel working ok for transport here.

Once it comes to channel strip... all bets are off. It's broken badly and ACT just just doesn't 'act' very well alas.

Here's hoping the update isn't a pipe dream? The beard is a bit longer.

Hey Guys !

Sorry I have not been about much recently been geting the new computer built and busy with work.

Ok so looks like we are getting Sonar X2a this month so lets keep our fingers crossed for a fix for our issues.

Ryan if you can chime in on this next bit that would be grand !

Got a Support ticket reply form waaaaay back regarding the VS-700 control I asked about the pro channel issues and if it was possible to control the take lanes with the VS-700 (if I cant then its back to the mouse each time I want to arm solo control a take lane etc.... )

The Reply I got said ....

Hello,

We have outlined the problems that we are currently working on with the VS700 here in this forum post. Most of this has to do with the ProChannel:

http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2682176

As far as the Take Lanes go I have no experimented with controlling them from the Take Lans via the VS700. Have you presented this question to the forum? A lot of users are very experienced with the VS700/SONAR.

So guys can you tell me can you control take lanes control from the VS-700 ? ( I feel this is a must for full integration or its back to the mouse each time to solo mute record etc.... )

What are your thoughts ?

My important bugs I hope to see fixed are

1 Channel strip integration - Currently unusable

2 Some times when using soft synths when I solo them and play them then un solo it can cause the synth not to play back until I mute the synth and un mute and play again. 4 There is no Take lane integration and as you see above the staff didn't know if there was.

I have bugs but there X2 related and not so much VS-700 so I will keep them out of here for now :) I am unhappy support didn't check if they had the take lanes working or not on there system instead of telling me to ask here.

If someone can confirm the take lanes are controlled that would be really appreciated ! Norrie

Hello All,

There will be a number of VS-700c fixes in X2a. Right now I don't know exactly what they are, but I know they are a part of the patch.

Hi Mully...

Nice to meet ya! So, as I mentioned the Jog/Shuttle was working... just stopped working. Hope the hardware isn't the issue. It's almost 2 months old (fresh out of the box)... I've bee trying to figure out if maybe there is some MIDI mode that the surface configuration might need to be in that I am missing some where... If anyone has any answers I would be greatful.

Support says they are aware of the problem and sent me here... So here I am!

Norrie

As far as the Take Lanes go I have no experimented with controlling them from the Take Lans via the VS700. Have you presented this question to the forum? A lot of users are very experienced with the VS700/SONAR.

This is unbelievable! Tech support people who are payed to work on our problems and provide help and solutions to us, simply redirect people to this forum. Now, this I call highly unprofessional and gets me really

Lol!! Now we're ALONE GUYS!

Haven't been able to control any of the new X2 features, including all sort of lanes.  Every attempt crash Sonar or mess everything.

Hope the new patch address the new features of X2a....

I don't want to suit them ....but i will get the code anyday !! and make one soanr/mackie control beast ..it's more and more on my mind !!

Abbey road and other studios made their own consoles ....why can't we just make a control surface (way more easy on te hardware side) ....
