Spelling is unimportant and anyone who demands "correct" spelling is a fascist! But, in JV's defense, I got the feeling he was talking about his own need for a spelling checker, with no particular relavence to anything said in this thread - other than that the topic of spelling had come up. I read his post to be empathetic to the bad speller :)

Is this meant to start some flame war where i write back "OH BUT YOU'RE AMERICAN!!" because it's not going to happen. I made a comment based on the fact that I and apparantly others feel that there is no need to be so lax with your native tongue and summing it up with "it doesn't matter". Sure it isn't the biggest deal in the world and there are far worse things going on but if you were implying that it is Scottish to have terrible spelling then nowadays, you may actually be right and it is that point exactly that i am making that is contributing to the decline of modern society. I never worked at MS before XP came out. Absolutely they didn't use any cracked software. there were absolutely no mp3 servers anywhere on campus. that was completely forbidden. there is no drinking on campus either....so those beer refrigirators are complete hallucinations. testers install completely liscensed copies on one machine at a time.....no tester ever put the same key code in for the 30 generic german builds...even after pressing the " I agree ......blah blah"
being licensing is a huge deal these days....MS has lawyer assigned to every machine looking over every sorftware/driver install.....looking at all the licsening agreements. I absolutely did not calculate that each 10,000 employee did not have 3 -30machines they were in charge of. so there couldn't have been 30k machines around me. i personally did not have 30-50 desktop or laptop machines ....so I didn't need the 30-50 lawyers per a machine allowing me to click "I agree".

Lighten up...yes grammar and spelling are important for communication but, in general, "good enough" is, well, good enough. But what exactly is "good enough"? For native English speakers it may be not so difficult to figure out what some butchered sentence means. But last time I looked there were also some people around here whose first language is not English - I am German for instance. Communication is a 2-way-street. If someone doesn't care whether the reader understands them or not, why do they post in the first place? How much effort does it take to read through the post before sending it and correct at least the worst errors? Is it a "cool" or "rebellion" attitude type of thing I don't understand? Gavin just stated an opinion and was immediately attacked and insulted. Do you really support such behaviour? I'd be surprised... werner
