Sorry, I never saw the 8.5 fix lists. After 8.3.1 , I was 100% happy. A stable system that has never locked, frozen or crashed even once in 2 years time. So I never bothered with the upgrade.

Fair enough Mike. Just for the record (and reference), here is the list of 8.3.1 fixes. http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/reader.aspx/20090219 Although some people will see these lists as a negative, I don't. To me it shows that the bakers at CW don't quit. Once 8.3.1 was out - they moved on to 8.5. They spend 3 - 5 months fixing the little things (8.5.2 & 8.5.3) then moved on to X1. It's been the same pattern since I can remember.
Don't fix it in the mix ... Fix it in the take! Desktop: Win 7 Pro 64 Bit , ASUS MB w/Intel Chipset, INTEL Q9300 Quad Core, 2.5 GHz, 8 GB RAM, ATI 5450 Video Laptop: Windows 7 Pro, i5, 8 Gig Ram Hardware: Presonus FP10 (Firepod), FaderPort, M-Audio Axiom 49, Mackie 1202 VLZ, POD X3 Live, Variax 600, etc... etc...

Seems to me that every release is "the worst ever" & "has more bugs than any other release" If that continues we'll eventually just be buying a bug. I'm afraid if I felt that strongly about something on every release I'd do it once, maybe twice to see if things had improved. There wouldn't be a third time............

Hi, Privacy8 - Like everyone else, I'm looking forward to X1 getting up to speed, and hopefully it will. But I'm not really sure what you mean by "a truly gapless audio engine." Do you find X1's engine more problematic than 8.5 or earlier?-- I've never had much issue with this central part of Sonar, and so I ask. Randy B.

Please tell me that I've mis-read or mis-understood about snap settings not persisting per screenset. If they don't persist and you can't set different snap to for the TV and PRV there is now no way to jump from one setting to another easily. If the snap to can be set independently in the PRV to TV fair enough, if they can't I'm confused. That was one of the great things about screensets - independent settings.

I think he's talking about a certain few other DAW's that have "a truly gapless audio engine." By that he means you can basically do anything while the song is playing. You never need to turn off the track to work on it. X1 doesn't do this. It would be amazing if They could get the next versions of X1 to have "a truly gapless audio engine." Wow, that list keeps getting longer. I didn't know so many things were broken! Glad to see them working every little nook and cranny. Makes me wonder how many of those problems have led to a crash on my system.

HumbleNoise - Snap Settings no longer persist per-Screenset
You just made me come in here, Cakewalk!!! Shame on you! I'm on sabbatical from this forum, but I checked in just to see what the X1b patch was about and this is what I find? If I'm understanding this, snap settings will still be global, but the lifeboat [namely screensets] will be taken away from us??!? yours angrily Sven ------------------------------------------------ Edited for clarity (and slightly better English)

Hi all Firstly, am currently doing most of my work in 8.5.3 and will mirgrate over [ again ] to Sonar X1 when X1b is released. The X1b list is [ so far ] looking good. However ...... I have this hard-to-explain feeling that even with all the X1b " fixes " X1 will still feel like its missing many things. I realize this is unfair given X1b is still some ~4 weeks away [ or more ] but looking thorough the list, it seems that what we will actually be getting is Sonar X1 as it should have been from Day 1. A lot of feedback and feeling has been around the removed / deleted customizations / toolbars etc.... that 8.5.3 had and is now - for reasons unkown - still going to be missing from X1b. At worst, if X1b is really just the fully-develpoped-and-stable Day One release that X1 should have been, I might stick with 8.5.3 and maybe wait for X1.1 or X1.2 to hopefully restore some of the user customizations from 8.5.3. Either way, I am looking forward to giving X1b a really good work-out - maybe I will be very pleasantly surprised and if I am, I will stick with it. If nothing else, a fully-stable-and-fully-developed-Sonar X1 will be interesting to put through its paces. Tim

timboe If nothing else, a fully-stable-and-fully-developed-Sonar X1 will be interesting to put through its paces. Tim I think that's a great call. IMO X1b won't fix a lot of specific desires and most likely (IMO again) won't fix some of those absolutely cannot run X1 on that system problems, but the 'stupid stuff' will be mostly working better and as intended. Whether or not what the Bakers intended and what we, as users, think they should have intended, match, will be the grist of many a 'X1b sucks' threads. I'm looking forward to the update though. (Personally up against some 'intended' behavior myself over the 'Screen Sets Snap not persisting' thing from above though. It won't ruin my X1b experieince but shaking head a bit.)

Yes... I agree with both Larry and Tim... I hold my expectations low... and reading the list it sounds as tho they are fixing many bugs, but not correcting what many of us see as design errors... these may or may not be addressed later, but it doesn't sound like there are any of those issues being addressed in X1b... but I must also note that I've often been very surprised by the Bakers... and it would be great impact to be giving us this huge list of bugs fixed and leave some good surprises as a knockout punch to be delivered with the patch... I don't expect, but I hope... ...and with benstat's Helper program, I'm having an easier time with a number of issues. Too bad I can't wrap my head around panups mods... I would need to create my own edits to be of comfort for me and I don't have the state of mind to deal with learning to reverse engineer. That would help make it more comfortable if I could... <sigh>... But if more of the bugs are fixed, it's gotta be better than it is... Especially the many track-layer related issues... Lasso!!! That's gotta be a biggie and I still don't see that on the list... Keni

not a bad list for X1b and the list will only continue to get longer with more fixes and improvements; hoping that there will be a few more features rolled out if time permits. If that's not the case, I hope there will be another update, X1c in the coming months with some additional content like they did with 8.3
