Anyone know whether competitive crossgrades are available in Australia?  My guess is no - all the music shops here only have full price, upgrade or educational versions, probably some licensing deal with the local distributor I guess.

Steinberg.net detects Australia (it offers me prices in $AUD) but only has upgrades from within previous versions or lower levels of Cubase; or "crossgrades" from Cubase to Nuendo.  It doesn't even offer an outright intial purchase from what I can see.

Otherwise I might look at sweetwater as a download then buy a USB dongle locally?

I did it in a attempt at keeping the main forum clear of dozens of "Steinberg has a special offer..." threads.
Folk still have genuine "support" requests they want help with and they're being buried/ignored.

There will be a similar sticky when PreSonus announce their special offer for Sonar users on Tuesday.

I'd like to thank Greg from Cubase. I'm based in the UK and I will be taking up the offer to crossgrade.

The steinberg website is currently showing the crossgrade price as £248 for the boxed version only.

Is this the offer? Will there be a download version?

It's a download. The box includes the eLicencer dongle. There's an option to buy Media Content (DVD version) for about 7-8 euros. I just placed an order (+ Media Content) earlier today.

Well, one thing's for certain.  I guess this means Cakewalk has no secret deal in the works for a buyout from another company.  Otherwise they wouldn't be allowing these competitor's side-grade offers to be posted in this forum, especially not pinning them to the top.
But the special deals are appreciated by most of us, and gives us more options.  Whether to keep using Sonar until it doesn't work anymore, or start learning to use another program.... or both.

Not sure you can draw that conclusion.  Forum mods here aren't Cakewalk employees, nor do their actions need a priori permission from Cakewalk.

"Cubase Pro 9.5 Crossgrade ... Proof of eligibilty required"

... so I added the Crossgrade to the shopping cart.
The process requires proof of eligibility to select from a drop-down box of various products, but Cakewalk/Sonar isn't there, at least not yet.

You may be right.  But in this situation, if I were a Cakewalk executive working on a buyout deal, I'd try to discreetly discourage these competitor offers in order to retain the user base.  But people are gonna do whatever they feel is most comfortable and secure.  And if that means buying a new DAW program immediately, then that's what they're going to do.  I'm going to keep on using Sonar Platinum, since I've invested so much time and money into it.  While at the same time, keep my eyes open for deals, try out demos, and just be prepared for any eventuality.

Could there not just be 1 locked thread in the announcements on crossgrade offers? This would keep things clearer and if it was updated by mods it wouldn't seem like rival companies are trying to cash in on our misfortune so much.

Splat, Win 10 64bit and all sorts of musical odds and sods collected over the years, but still missing a lot of my old analogue stuff I sold off years ago.

Ok - done that. For anyone considering this course, what happens is you fill the order form, you're then asked for proof. I sent a screenshot of the page with the Platinum registration. Then it says (something like ...) "your request for eligibility is to be reviewed, you will be contacted within two days ...".  No money has changed hands at this point.

I am very interested in moving on to Cubase. I had Cubase SX 1,2 and 3. after Emagic was bought by Apple. I still have my dongle. I have loved Sonar but I see no reason to continue with it. The offer of a grossgrade to Cubase 9.5 is very thoughtful of the Steinberg team. I thank you for doing this at this time.

I hope we are given some time to gather our thoughts on this and that this offer it in effect for awhile.

@Greg Ondo, thanks for popping in Greg. You have my money :) I actually had been sitting at 7.5 for sometime, due to moving first back to Sonar, then my Mac so, Logic Pro X. Time to realise with the failure first of Sonar to move to making a Mac version, now it's freeze in dev. I am happy to get back to a DAW that will cross the OS divide for future proofing, my sanity and my wallet, (lord knows what a future Mac Pro will cost, as my 2012 Mac gets older and older).

Cheers,

PreSonus are announcing a special offer for Sonar users on Tuesday.

I have no idea what it will be or even if it will be better or worse than the current Black Friday deal.  I'm merely trying to keep Sonar users informed when specific offers are made and keep the main forum clear of "chatter" so that folk with Sonar questions can get them answered.

Yes.  I think Cubase was the one that came up with the arranger thing in the first place.

So my new goal is to be operational in some fashion with a new DAW software package by Saturday week.

As far as changing...I'm in IT field, a lot of things will be new but not unfamiliar or impossible. That may be many others' position I'd think... 😊

Not sure why everyone is abandoning ship as it were...Cakewalk have advised that all legal users will get a special code that will allow off-line licencing IF/WHEN the servers are shut down. So therefore the current version of Sonar will work for years.

Further forget the whole Windows compatibility thing, I can still load up Home Studio and Sonar 8.5 on a W10 machine and they still run. So, I think there is a lot of "sheepish" action going on here TBH!

If I were a hobbyist or semi-pro - just doing my own music, etc - I might agree. But as a pro studio, I have to consider reputation and positioning, and running with a "dead" product won't help that at all. It has been tough enough over the years explaining "why i use SONAR" - now it would be fatal.

I totally agree with your standpoint, given your situation. I, too, would be dropping SONAR like a hot cake and seriously considering Cubase as a replacement.

I'm inclined to agree, but Sonar at the moment is no longer developed or supported and those are important factors for any professional users. I will continue using Sonar while it still works, but I will need to get and learn a new platform for any serious work going forward. Now could be the best time to get the most favorable crossgrade discount!
