John T They did say, I think in the CakeTV video, that initially during the Alpha test phase, it will only support interfaces that are Core Audio compatible. But that's about all the information to date, I think.
Is this is the video that you are referring to ?,
They never mentioned what different versions of the Mac operating systems SONAR OSX Alpha for Mac will be compatible with ... In Windows I run Win 10 64 bit . On Mac I'm running about what the equivalent of what Win 7 would be ... The interface I mentioned before is core audio only . Kenny
That means you're quite a few revisions back on OSX. I have two boot partitions on my iMac one with OSX 10.8.5 and OSX 10.9.5. I might be interested in the new Sonar IF I could open my old Sonar 8 Producer projects. That's where I jumped from Sonar on Windows to PT on a Mac and then Digital Performer on the same machine. Current OSX is ElCrapitan (OSX 10.11.x)

Well I had to pay the $199 because I didn't upgrade in January. But what surprised me was that I was up till 2:00 AM last night downloading and installing stuff. I thought I was fairly current, but I got soooo much stuff last night it's ridiculous. So I already have received a ton of updates that make my Sonar Platinum a monster program !!! It's going to take me a week just to get to know everything that's there. I looked around a little last night and was very much impressed with what I saw. I'm already getting my bang for the buck...

I don't use Mac unless I have to. - I see Sonar for Mac as a big opportunity if PC & Mac projects are 100 % compatible - 99,99 % will not cut it, and the user has nothing to do, can simply send the project per email or put it on a server, and s/he doesn't have to care if the receiver has a Mac or a PC. This would definitely make Sonar more of a ProTools challenger. - I would hope a Sonar licence would be valid for both Mac and Windows. - On the other hand, there is really no way this won't slow development on Windows, it will simply take more developer resources from Cakewalk, even if 80 % of the code is cross platform. I have been super happy with my one year subscription to Sonar Platinum, which just ended mid may. I had my doubts, but in my opinion the suscription was well worth it. Now I must say I have my doubts about the for life sub, since its almost 50 % more expensive than the one year sub I paid, and if I understand correctly only Sonar core will be updated.

Pricing aside: This is what I have been wondering and find no clarity: So, I buy the life-time Sonar updates: what do I get updates for? I assume it is for the core program, and the plugins, and instruments, included when installed. Yes? I also assume this will mean I "own" the program, in that it will never revert to trial mode. I then need to buy a membership to get the new stuff included with the monthly releases. Yes? This makes sense to me.

sounds to me like sonar platinum will come to a screaching halt soon after everybody has bought into this updates for life down the road when the next latest and greatest comes out .why should we have to pay for fixes anyway.. i am a little disappointed with CW . i bet we will end up paying for some cool new feature that wont be included in the updates for life promise.

so did anyone elses price for lifetime updates go up while waiting for june 1st announcement? i held off after logging in a couple of weeks ago and seeing a $149 upgrade cost - thinking it was a smart thing to do as cakewalk was pushing this big announcement so hard. announcement comes - has pretty much zero impact - and now i am being charged $199 after no warning of a pending price increase. for some reason i did take a screenshot of my shopping cart back then showing the initial price, but still no response from support.

Depends on if a renewal was purchased for this year and how much was paid. From http://www.cakewalk.com/June-2016#SONAR4Life
I just renewed SONAR Platinum this year. Do I still have to pay the full $199?No, your price will be $199 minus the amount you paid when you purchased your renewal. Click here to see your price.

Is "Update" and "Upgrade" the same thing in this scenario? Usually updates are free (bug fixes, etc.) but upgrades (to the next version) cost extra.

An upgrade would be from Artist to Pro, or Pro to Plat or Artist to Plat. Updates means new content, new features, revised features and yes... bug fixes, for the version you currently have. Edit to add: A new Upgrade option, Any version of Sonar to Sonar Plat LIFETIME. (Price of upgrade varies depending on what you start with)

It starts at $49. So for example, people who bought the membership renewal this month at $149, would only pay the difference, $49. If you paid $99, you'd pay another $99. That was explained in earlier emails. Most people purchased it at $99 so that's the bulk of pricing you'll likely see.

Yes, any new SONAR feature we introduce will be included in lifetime updates. We stopped doing version numbers. We like working on one version better and just incrementally improving.

Well, that's two of us... Walt
Make it three! I think most existing SONAR users aren't going to run out and buy really expensive and more difficult to upgrade hardware just to get the same features at the same performance. So I think there are probably more than 3.
We are at least 4..

I don't think this is note entirely true. If you upgraded to Platinum from X3, you did not pay full price. If someone buys today with no Sonar, they pay close to $500 (I am not sure). It also states on sites other than Cakewalk that the lifetime updates will only be available until August 31st. Therefore, first time buyers must buy by then or lose the opportunity (I guess they want to attract the new business fast).
