I'd have to think a bit longer about new things, but the current things that most annoy me on a daily basis are.. In the track inspector the clip info tab doesn't shrink back the inspector like the track info and PC tabs do. ie. if I have the inspector just showing the track info and not the bus also, clicking on the PC tab will resize the UI to use the PC. Click on it again when your done and it reverts to the previous state, TI tab is the same, but Clip tab opens but never closes. Always having to click on one of the other two tabs and then close that instead. A minor thing maybe, but it's really annoying and I would imagine a relatively simple fix as it works fine in X3, but somewhere along the line a Platinum update broke it. I can't say when exactly because my first installed Platinum version was 2016.12 and it was already broken by then. Lack of a solo button on pro-channel eq. The undo bug - Edit>Undo doesn't show the last action, but the one before it. Again something that got broken along the way and repeatedly ignored. New features that have come to mind while writing... Console view folders - a user option to have the same effect on the console view when a track folder is closed. Ability to reorder the synths in the synth rack, just for the sake of tidiness really. On larger projects it would be nice to be able to see all of the instances of the same synth displayed adjacently rather than just in whatever order they were added to the project. The browser could do with some love - things like the abilty to show the UI of the synth/fx as a thumbnail (whispers quietly........like in studio one).

Wow, Meng... thanks for opening this up! I am in awe of the astute ideas posted above and can only agree without adding the same things over again. I will insert these: Right now it seems that *only* the Mercury theme has the ability to change the track controls color. All other themes just change the color of the vertical bar at the far left in track view. I also want to change the color of the track marker ellipsis to bright yellow... the faded gray that is current gets visually lost. I have done this in track editor but then the Mercury style track color goes away and I am left with vertical bar color and yellow ellipses. I want both! I would like a new DAW announcement for my birthday, April 6... clock's ticking, Meng!

Before Cakewalks closure there was an opportunity to intergrate Overture (a stand-alone notation software) but it was rejected by Gibson. Perhaps this could go ahead if it is indeed practical. It could go a long way toward answering all the notation requests and bugs. One of the oft voiced complaints is that features are added in incomplete forms. AudioSnap, Matrix and Step Sequencer could all do with enhancement.

Meng, Just a couple that I can think of off the top of my head: 1. More metering options (example: Peak to RMS to K-20, 14,12, Ebu-128, stereo field, phase, etc.) This would be very helpful being built right into the DAW without needing third party plugins snagging up computer resources. 2. Placing plugin inserts as Pre or Post fader without having to use a send. Thanks Chris

1. Studio One lets you have 1 midi file trigger multiple VSTi's. ive seen workarounds using input echo and recording on fly but thats nonsense to me. i just want 1 file to run through 2 VSTi's without having to arm this one and record that one, etc. If there was a simple way to select the VSTi's input as being any midi track on the track view, that would be awesome. 2. Reaper has a really cool range slider for velocity dynamics in the midi editor. when you select a range of midi notes and open the velocity tab, the slider lets you flatten or randomize the velocities of the selected notes on the fly. it's very helpful and super quick to randomize things like hi-hats. ive used the midi scripts/function that are currently available, but to me, they seem very inconsistent and i have to fiddle with them a million times just to get something descent when wanting to randomize note velocity. having a simple dynamics slider is cut and dry in my opinion. 3. one bug i get all the time is when i save a track template that uses a drum map, it almost never ports over to a new project when i use that template. i always have to go onto the track and pick the drum map again. routing and everything else saves properly, but the map always changes. to some default in the map manager

Thank you for this opportunity and for taking an interest in the thoughts of your customer base. Some of my thoughts concur with what others have already said, but here goes: - The staff view again. As many have already said, it is in need of a big overhaul. I think it would be well worth investigating the capabilites of other DAWs and notation software and updating it to at least the same degree of capability.
- Improve the integration with Mackie control surfaces and give them support for ACT. Also, for those who have an MCU and an extender, implement the ability to have for example tracks displayed on one unit while displaying busses on the other.
- Patch Browser - Many MIDI synths and workstations have the ability to categorize their patches so I think it would be useful for the patch browser to also support categories and even sub-categories. For example you could categorize a patch by 'Piano' and the sub-category could be 'Acoustic' or 'Electric' as appropriate.
- Bank change - I was using Reaktor 6 (full version, not the player) as a VST in Sonar and wanted to make an instrument for sending bank and patch changes to my Roland XV-5080. The patches were to be arranged in their respective banks and categories; kind of a replacement for the existing patch browser. The problem was that the bank changes were not sent correctly from inside Sonar. The same instrument worked fine though in Reaktor's standalone version. Perhaps this could be looked into?

Thanks for the opportunity to input. 1. create software which will make it easy to integrate the most popular DAW controllers without having to configure them manually. 2. If you are keeping the Matrix view and see that as the platform to invest in for this area of the product give it a radical update. 3. A specific tool for arrangement I suppose this could be part of matrix view 4. I find the GUI to pro channel quite fiddly it might be nice to open this out abit so that all the options are more visible. All the best of luck with the new Sonar

I would like to see a Chord Track similar to the one in Cubase. It is really helpful to guitar players who are not proficient on the piano or keyboards. No matter what note you hit on your midi keyboard, it will be within the chord, this works with audio as well as midi.

Please make audio engine more responsive. After working with Studio One 3 after the divorce I was really tuned into how often Sonar would lock up. Especially when looping playback for an extended period with Sonar. A visual clip edit feature. I really enjoy the edit window in Studio One 3 . The clip edit in Sonar just does not seem as complete to me, and no visual feed back. Midi improvements with some better handling of VSTi in instrument rack view is welcome. Someone else mentioned when a track is hidden it still will hold a spot on a controller, which can lead to confusion. +1 for all other requests as they are all worthy.

Thanks a million, Meng. My requests are rather simple. (For the most part.) 1) Add a 4 band EQ to the mixer channels. A good one. 2) Please FIX Audio Snap. It never worked right. 3) All around fixes and tweaks. TDFKAS has always been the best one out there IMO but it can be even better now. That's it for now. If I think of anything else I'll come back and add it. EDIT: 4) "Clean Audio Folder." Needs to be more accurate and get rid of all unwanted audio files.I know there's a workaround but to have this feature work like it was designed to work would be great. Thanks again

Staff View: all that has been said, but also: Don't lose the good things it already has, especially, infinite horizontal and vertical scrolling. I mention this because of the suggestion that you might incorporate Overture to replace Staff View. If so, this scrolling capability is paramount in my workflow. It's how I edit, I don't use PRV. Also, please keep Step Record, I use that , along with direct placement of notes. My only other suggestion at the moment is to continue to let us customize the view. I prefer the GUI of 8.5 Sonar. I like to switch between full-size pages of Staff View, Event List, Track View and Console View. And please keep Event List! I recently tried Home Studio, and it doesn't have it. I tried using PRV for a couple of weeks, but it's just not for me. I absolutely need Event List. Just keep all the classic views of Sonar, and let me decide how to use them. Many, Many Thanks!

- I will echo the request for a updates to Staff Notation - or integration with external tools. As has been mentioned, and I imagine Noel is aware, there were apparently talks with a notation developer to bring a new notation / scoring feature to what was then SONAR.
- I think the MusicXML import/export needs to be updated with the latest standards (which might actually work along with the previous item).
- a more universal control surface editor or better universal control surface editor for things like the VS-700, only universal (so I don't have to choose the Mackie Control Interface for my controller / synth [MX-49]).
- Bring the MIDI support upto the latest MIDI specification just recently ratified.
- Bouncing a MIDI track to audio doesn't line up the events accurately - that will need to be fine tuned. To clarify - if you bounce MIDI to audio, then play the audio and the MIDI together, they are slightly out of time from one another.
Thank you for listening and giving us a place to provide feedback.

2 more... 1. folders in console would be awesome, especially if they match the folders from the track view. you can see this in reaper for example. 2. not having bus/master tracks in a separately divided panel in the track/console views. we should be able to position a bus where ever we like. i dont like having my buses so far away from the tracks im using them as a group on. to then be able to collapse the tracks under the bus saves so much space and makes mixing much much easier. after using this in reaper and studio one, this is probably my biggest pain point in sonar from a workflow perspective.

#1 a Big One issue / bug for me... It was acknowledged by previous Sonar bug team as a "bug" about 5 month ago but was never repaired. When I do vocal take lanes, new material is placed in random "empty spots" comping. That is ok... BUT it would also record new material to MUTED take lanes if they have empty space. If the take lane is MUTED by user, It should stay MUTED. Sometimes I would have 50+ audio items in tracks and when new audio is recorded to muted take lane it drives me mad to locate it, and delete other items within take lanes except the new recording. If new bug team is proactive and responsible, please look into it. If you need, I will gladly share correspondence with previous bug team. Hopeful and passionate user. Thank you!

Another one... I never liked take lanes. Waaay back (mebbe PA9 or SONAR 1XL) when I was looping and doing multi takes, I could set it to *make* a new track and store take there. 5 takes would equal 5 tracks and each but most recent would be muted. This was (for me) *much* easier to work with than lanes. If there is a way to set this behavior in SPlat, I haven't found it. If it's there, please tell me, peeps. Otherwise, consider this a feature request.

1. Hassle-free compatibility with the major-player MIDI keyboards and control surfaces from the last ten years or so. Studio One and Ableton work with my Akai MPK61 (v1) out of the box, but Sonar requires major ACT headaches to get the basics going. This is offputting to new (and even seasoned) users. It's needless hassle. Dump ACT. 2. Improve Matrix view so users can record audio or softsynth midi into cells. 3. Make the full version Cakewalk softsynths part of the flagship DAW package. I already own all of them but Rapture Pro, but this would be a good gesture for others. 4. Modernize, expand and improve upon the ProChannel. 5. Put resources into Support and revitalize Cakewalk's reputation for support. I never needed it myself, but the user reports and assigned resources were highly embarrassing at the end of Gibson's ownership. 6. PLEASE make dedicated iOs/Android control surface apps.
Tangled roots perplex her ways. Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP, Windows 10 x64, i7 5820k, Asrock X99 OC Formula, 16 GB Corsair DDR4, Asus STRIX GTX 970, SSD's for OS and samples, Akai MPK61, and myriad VST's.

Take Lanes are non negotiable for me. They are absolutely brilliant if you actually use them how they were intended. Maybe make it an option to turn on or off if people don't want to use them.

Hi Meng & thanks 1. Metronome bug fix: At times it doesn't work (silent) unless you toggle the FX button. Mike

Thank you!!! 1- Fix the bugs (Freeze is broken, surround is broken, ect.) 3d party plugin relationships. 2 - The automation is very clunky need a complete overhaul. ( Maybe also have a checkmark for the items needed and ability to remove the pain in the ass lanes with too much clicking. In Sonar 8.5 there were many removed features I'd like back. 3-Use of icons, please bring back the icons. 4- audio snap is very cumbersome could be simpler and more effective. 5- Improve workflow is so important to me. Anyplace you can remove clicking and speed up wk flow. So many 3 or 4 clicks to do something that should take 1 click. Very excited to see the progress!!

Hi. Long-time Cakewalk/Sonar User here...
1) Bugs!!! They all must go... It is a matter of integrity and should be any companies top priority, especially for software that has been around as long as Sonar has... and which has been under constant development (aka: Rolling Updates) since Sonar X1.
2) MIDI - Back in the day when Memory, Processing, and Storage were expensive, much was done to improve the way MIDI functioned to produce AUDIO. Now that the aforementioned is relatively cheap, it seems much of the development in the past 15 or so years has gone towards improving Audio, which is not a bad thing but I’m afraid MIDI development has been neglected. There are keyboards being manufactured now without MIDI ports, which is a shame since MIDI, from it’s conception, was supposed to be about standardization and compatibility. FINE, add a USB jack but leave the MIDI Jacks, so we have compatibility with our vintage gear! Now with MPE and IOS integration...how quickly we forget.
3) Specifically, LOGIC, or at least in the old days, before Apple, their used to be an “Environment” page where there were all these different objects you could drag and connect with your mouse...It gave you a very visual oversight as to what was going on ROUTING wise (Again, mainly for MIDI) but you could easily route a multi channel instrument and split it to various destinations and be able to actually have a good idea what is happening when you open a project you completed 6 months ago... I don’t have a MAC so I’m not sure how they are doing it today but I believe SONAR, or whatever the name is going to be, would greatly benefit...much as the Skylight Interface helped to visualize a Recording Environment, in a system where anything can be virtually routed to almost anywhere, this sort of virtual patch bay/wiring diagram I believe is a necessity. Frankly, I’m surprised nobody has thought to include this GUI. The Track/Arrangement view is not the ideal place for it and frankly, with the Patch Points and Auxillary connections, it actually clutters that screen, though the idea of adding the connection points is needed, you should be able to just drag a line from one object to another and then back again...
4) Get rid of the dead weight... Personally, the .cal scripts never did nothing for me and though the rest of the platform has been developed consistently, .cal and the instrument configurations have not been updated for several major releases. I appreciate application integration if it helps with performance, otherwise, it’s just one more place for something to go wrong and crash the whole Program...
5) Control Surfaces - This needs to be on the leading edge, with all the new generation controllers that are now available (E.G. Roli Seaboard). It would be great if someone would produce a mapping system that actually worked...or one that could be easily assembled by again dragging objects (faders, knobs, switches, buttons, etc) and assignigning them to hardware counterparts. That way you don’t have to wait for a template to be made for every one of a gazillion devices one may want to control. I’m sure that would probably require a collaborative effort but I see it as being very do-able and essential.
I could be living in a Virtual World, but that’s the way I see it...in Detail....
