1) Fix crashes working with Melodyne (ARA); 2) Improve the piano roll edition; 3) Improve the audio snap features; 4) Chord track and pad; 5) Add a metronome that can start one bar before the recording.

Thanks, Meng! I think there's still an issue surrounding MIDI devices I/O "interface indexing" when opening a project that had a different set of MIDI devices when originally created/saved. I will try to recreate the issue and report back. I also think others have seen this in the way some softsynths using MIDI I/O get scrambled when a MIDI I/O item is removed - for example, a MIDI line for a synth plays the wrong MIDI channel (another synth) even though the console says it's playing the right channel/synth. And yes, as others have said, more time devoted to MIDI updates, support, and features and bugs.

The 1st thing I would suggest is that sonar learns to better adapt. Right from the get go sonar is a right royal pain in the butt. It fails to optimise itself for the hardware it is being used on. We have to learn how to adjust our midi buffers.. How many AAA software games expect the end user to know what to set the graphics for there hardware ? Sure some of us know, but it attempts a half decent job by itself. So why is sonar expecting the end user to learn the intricacies of it's preferences ? Especially when these setting are so important to the quality of the sonar experience. The second would be stability, Sonar is unstable, especailly if you haven't optimised the programme for the hardware you are using. It also is far too reliant on well written drivers. Here we have a majority of computers with windows running on board sound-cards and Sonar behaves awfully with all of the ones I have used. Even after that hurdle of fixing that with a new sound card Sonar is unstable. Not to the point of making it unusable, but enough to make my eye's roll on a near daily occurrence. I get many issues with Sonar crashing to desktop, some due to VST's some not. Example changing the colour on the track view with Ctrl held to change multiple tracks causes a CTD. Third, It is missing recognition, sure the industry have heard of cakewalk, but enough to mention it in there list of suggested DAW's for the use of there £200 software VST, or there £4k control surface ? Sonar is IMO very professional software, yet it is probably looked at like a hobbyist 50 year old rockers DAW of choice. It's ageing flagship VST's don't do it any favours, Square I, Roland Groove Synth, Cakewalk TTS-1 and even Z3ta are really showing there age. I love Z3ta, but it's 2017, and my resolution is now 1920 x 1080, I can't even read the damn thing to programme it on my 24 inch screens.
Forth, Sonars step sequencer.. This is in sour need of updating. Why can it not handle poly rhythms like Geist 2 can ? Why can't it create tempo's unique to the step in the step sequence like BreakTweaker micro edit can ? Vital bits I find is essential in creating NEW sounds people haven't heard before. Now if you can get that down, you open that up to EVERY single VST that understands midi notes that sonar can host. Sonar might even start losing some of the ageing rocker image it has, well at least to my mind. Five, I have loved the way I can BPM sync some of my effects, and filters in a fair few of my VST's soft-synths (Serum for example or Massive). I love how I can create Poly rhythmic patterns in Giest 2 or in Xfer's Nerve, I love how these soft-synths can also use step sequencers to control all the wonderful parameters. Now what is stopping sonar creating a way to make these methods to control any VST automation ? A more modular approach to automation. Just imagine a drop down list to assign a control (BPM Sync's ADSR or LFO / LFO / Step Sequencer) to a type of automated control for a soft synth or effect., instead of having to draw manually, or set up a midi device via midi learn / ACT record, tweak knob, playback. There's nothing wrong with either of those two methods, much.. but what you are effectively doing is taking a fantastic innovative feature, and making it apply to every single VST you own (synth's + effects) ?! seems a no brainer to me not to have this.
Six, A good emulator for the classic 909 / 808 would be a huge step forward too. Seven, I like to see a much better Arp more akin to xfer's Cthulu.
Hope that helps ;)

Hi Meng. Thank you for the offer to contribute ideas. I would like to see track folders within folders like in Logic audio. that way you can split, copy, cut, and paste entire sections of a song and rearrange in any order. Also the ability to select all occurrences of a specific midi note number in a track and globally replace them with any another note value in the PRV.

Currently Step Sequencer just allows one row (I mentioned earlier but just had three post vanish, so I don't want the same adding these pics) Like this But this is all just a Hi Hat and if I want to adjust the swing, timing and velocity of one part of the drum kit, I have to pen and close four rows. I'd like this This equally applies to something simple as kick, sanre clsed Hi Hat

Hi Meng,
It would be nice to have Mackie HUI support, which is available in most major DAWs. I've requested this feature in the past to provide better integration with my Waves DiGiGrid IOS' record / playback features. Cubase supports it, but Sonar is much easier to work with.
Thanks for helping to rescue Cakewalk! I've been a loyal user for decades.

I would love to see the audio editor turn into a fully functioning sampler and a drum pad synth with the sample integrated. Older Sonar use to have cyclone (which was not fully finished, velocity never worked) or if possible just fix Cyclone so it works as expected and add a sampler to it

Soundwise Auto accompaniment like in Digitech Trio would be awesome! If it's possible in a pedal format, why can't this be done within a full power DAW?
Are you familiar with Microsoft Songsmith? It does chord extraction from melodies and pairs that with Band-In-A-Box MIDI accompaniment.

I have been playing with Studio one a bit and I really like the way they handle Instrument and Effect Chains. I also don't like the way the matrix is below the arrange window. I would rather have it inline like P5, Bitwig, or Mixcraft. Another thing... sometimes I like to make backing tracks from MIDI files I find on the web. Currently Sonar maps all of these to a single instance of TTS-1. Other Daws map each track to a single instance of their sample players. I prefer the other option because that makes it easier to swap out the instruments with the ones I want. Also, some kind of VST migration/persistence tool. For example I might have started a few projects in Kontakt3. However, I might have not bothered to install that old version the last time I rebuilt my machine. It would be nice to have the new DAW load up my project with the newest version of Kontakt, and have loaded the same sample set. Apparently Reaper has this kind of functionality.

If you work out deals with third parties where you essentially rebadge their software... 1. Get source code and permission to update it for OS changes and changes to plugin standards. 2. Source code reverts to you if developer is imprisoned for heinous crimes. There were a few cool plugins Cakewalk subcontracted/rebadged that can't be developed further (Golden Channel, Pristine Space). Let's try to avoid that fate. Other than that I am all about a. Stuff that helps me get things done faster. b. Stability never hurts. I wouldn't mind if you upgraded Pentagon either.

1)I would like to have a new drum sampler to work with, or rework studio drummer. I simply want to throw samples in it, not doing sfz files. 2)would like to have buses and folder tracks in the same space in mixer. Don't want to move to section "buses". 3)moving items and events like S1 maybe?

There could be a preferences dialog for setting which things the user wants to keep in history. 2) improved piano roll AND staff view - I defer to the other great comments here on this one 3) bugfix: stop undo clearing selections, especially in piano roll 4) ARA2 integration and flawless melodyne support 5) More improvements to comping tools

UAD VST scanning is broken. Many UAD plugins hang the SONAR VST scanner, which has to be closed in task manager, and offending plugin moved or renamed. All Chandler plugins, most new amplifier plugins, etc. Cakewalk and UAudio customer service both pointed at the other guy.
Drumcore 4 - multiple outputs broken. Individual tracks, when All Stereo Outputs is chosen on load, are not exposed to the plugin and only a stereo master output can be used.
Quadcurve EQ and Adaptive Limiter - VST3, AAX, etc., available for other hosts. Great plugins.
EUCON support - If you won't make a full-fledged tablet/phone controller for SONAR, make its EUCON support complete. AVID's Pro Tools | Control is free and works great on SONAR in a limited way, but the meters don't display and other features aren't supported.

I only have a few that consistently cause me grief. 1. Audio engine dropouts 2. Crashes when pulling audio into tracks 3. Melodyne instability 4. Saving/closing crashes on large projects 5. Crashes when configuring a send to a side chain, which happens 100pcnt of the time. 6. And in this last month, possibly due to upping my workload, crashes whilst tracking, seemingly if I do too many takes while looping? 5 would be the max. If I don't stop and save, I lose the recordings as SONAR crashes. This one has hurt me. I'm hoping I'm alone on this one and can fix it. cheers Dave.

It would be nice if Cakewalk could output to MP4, burn Karaoke disks/videos and also a revamped easier to edit lyrics view. I think more people would make their own karaoke content if Cakewalk could output to mp4 and other karaoke codecs. Karaoke content is a lost art because of so many under developed and proprietary karaoke editors. I know it seems to cheapen Cakewalk the whole idea of it but I really think it would be cool to just export video/slides, w/music and text and burn to CD. (some DJs still have CD karaoke) or a multitude of formats that they can upload to their machines. People could take their original Cakewalks songs and more easily use them live. Cakewalk could have a "karaoke view". (just a thought) Putting text to music with pictures is a really great way to get artists with few live skills out doing live stuff. 4K karaoke would be really great!!! :)

Thanks for doing this.
I've had some bizarre crashes in larger projects that have been open for a while (an hour or more). When this happens, the auto-saves are somehow lost and recovery is often impossible (no backup is made). There have been a few egregious instances where I've lost an hour or so of work, which is bizarre and infuriating. However, other than that, I haven't had any issues and am very happy with Sonar as it is.
To be entirely frank, my biggest "request" is simply that you guys don't try to reinvent the wheel or change the DAW itself too much. We love Sonar, and have stuck around, for a reason...it's incredibly user-friendly while still maintaining the capabilities of a powerful, professional DAW. I'm all for progress, but there's a reason I prefer Sonar. Don't bamboozle us into paying for an entirely different product, especially when many of us had already accepted the end of Sonar and now realize there are some decent alternatives out there (and were already preparing to migrate). The biggest way to keep Sonar users around is to largely keep Sonar the way it is. Just my two cents.

Please update and add the functionality to reverse slices/clips, add automation curves etc. Think Ableton's clip editor... 5. Rewrite & implement a new Control Surface/ACT/MIDI learn system. As far as DAW's go, Sonar is the absolute worst in this regard. Use Ableton as a model on how to better integrate this functionality. more to follow...

I cannot tell you just how many students/audio technologists/producers I know and have worked with over the years that have wanted to use Sonar on Apple systems. When I have demonstrated Sonar's capabilities and functionality it has wowed hardened Logic users, but the faces soon drop when they ask "Available for Mac?" and I say "no."

Meng and All:
An amazing list with many useful suggestions. I was casually capturing the categories across them, such as MIDI enhancement, stability, bug fix, etc. I learned a lot from the posts. Here is a very short list of things I think about when using TDFKAS:
1. Environment Modularity: is there a way to have a lean session just for tracking. Thinking like Presonus's Capture. When I am tracking a client or a live Orchestra I need capture essentials only for stability. I envision the ability to open a project that auto-freezes each track, and creates an ultra low demand session for overdubs. All the while permitting the ability to reopen the project with the overdub in place with the remaining project back to normal.
2. Exportable Detailed Session Information: I would like to export a .csv that would contain global project information (Project Name, storage path, creation date, last revised date, etc) along with some highly detailed track data (Some delivered in values such as 0 to 99) Such as: track name, clip list, trim. Volume, pan, FX list, routing, etc. when I am working in film post, often we document every detail, and I use screen captures for some of this. Also precise value print outs can help me find errant settings in a multi file project that create inconsistencies. I like having repeatable consistent results with accurate baselines. Project and track templates help accomplish this, I am seeking a way to document the settings.
Thank you for asking about enhancements.

Yeah, drive me mad, I still scroll automatically and realise you can't. There are about 32 Pro Channels now, roughly two HD screen high. Hopefully more will be developed, so sub folders and inclusion in the Pug In manager should really happen. They have sub folders already, as the style dials are in one.

I agree with KEV999 First priority is BUGS ! Always fixing them first is what creates a solid foundation. BUG 1)There is currently a spike leak at the input of a mutli tibral instrument or multi aux tracks inputting the same instrument when combined with sidechaining, although very hard to replicate the workaround is to use only one instrument input per instance of the multi tibral instrument or a single instrument with no addition input aux tracks ! which renders multi input aux tracks unusable with sidechaining completely ! So this must be fixed. This problem however provides itself an easy solution and can be fixed fast because if you look at the code then clearly there is a code difference between the first instrument input track of a instrument and additional aux tracks inputting that instrument. Furthermore you can cross reference that with a 4 x input track multi timbral instrument e.g kontakt , and ask yourself what is the common factor between the additional aux tracks and the second + input on the kontakt instance ? I can tell you they are identical because they both leak, so now ask yourself why is the first input track on the instrument and kontakt properly leak proof but any additional are not and there is your simple solution. It must be there for the dev team to see clear as day. FEATURES 2. A project's signal flow diagram, as discussed here: http://forum.cakewalk.com/m3163639.aspx3. MIDI tracks to include "MIDI send" so that a single MIDI source could output to more than one softsynth Thanks again

Back in the stoneages when CW was strictly a midi sequencer, there was a really handy feature to select between 3 user defined tempo-ratios (like .75, .90, and realtime). For an early project phase of purely midi development, this was one of my favorite tools. As a musician w/ limited chops, this streamlined the process of realtime creation with authentic feel, without disrupting any established tempo maps. For any given project, it was not unusual for me tweak the ratio on a per-part basis in order to find the right groove for that instrument. But there was always comfort in knowing that at any point the project could return to tempo ratio 1.0 (Realtime). I would like to suggest adding a version of this tempo-ratio tool that is available only whenever audio tracks cannot play. I'm thinking this could be handled in one of 3 ways. The first would probably be the easiest to code as a standalone module, while the 3rd would probably be the most useful for a so-so keyboardist, who might like to improvise a technically difficult solo towards the end of a project. You could eliminate conflict between a new midi tempo-ratios and audio realtime....... 1). by limiting the tempo-ratio tool to .mid filetypes only. 2). by coding in the conditions that would disable tempo-ratio (rendered/frozen synths, or recorded audio tracks present). 3). by temporarily muting/disabling rendered or audio tracks whenever a tempo-ratio other than realtime is selected.

CAL SCRIPT TOOL (universal foundation coding where the foundation codes do not change with new releases) I would like it if you guys could do a complete research, review, and anniversary updating of the CAL SCRIPT TOOL. I know that with every new version of Cakewalk there are new versions of code that are updated on the back end. When this happens it creates more new codes that can either be a completely new code feature / function, or simply a duplicate function of the previous code but with a new updated name. If you guys could please: 1. Take the time to really completely re-work through all of the codes since the very creation of Sonar Cakewalk and either re-write the codes in such a way to grandfather in all of the original codes (equivalent code substitutions) from all of the previous versions to have all versions work the exact same way that would be great. 2. Or instead if you could, since we are now switching to a completely brand new tech database for new scripting management both in the cloud and outside of the cloud, instead make all of the CAL SCRIPT codes universal so there will not be any current conflicts with us being able to create our own versions of workflow shortcuts when using Cakewalk outside of the cloud. 3. And lastly, please take the time to release a brand new "all-in-one" dedicated "up-to-date" book with these "universal codes" that will now allow us to use them consistently moving forward serving as "foundational codes" for the scripting instead constantly changing out the foundation of coding with every new release update of Cakewalk making the intended use of the CAL SCRIPT TOOL obsolete. The foundational codes will stay there forever because its something that we as users are trained and will have solid knowledge of while any new feature release versions of the code on the back end are updated and managed by the developer on the back end as "new feature equivalent codes" to serve the main purpose of interacting with the foundational codes updating the functionality each and every time when a new release has been created. I think this would be a one of a kind way to work through all future development issues and ensure the best DAW product on the market while moving towards the future of music entertainment production, features, and workflows. QUESTION? Movie Editing and CAL SCRIPTING (universal foundation coding where the foundation codes do not change with new releases) Does CAL SCRIPTING also apply itself in the same manner as video editing is concerned? If it does then maybe possibly it can be used to implement a competitive edge on the movie making industry since Cakewalk has been sitting on this particular feature for way too long with just the very basics of movie editing capabilities. And if this is true then my next question is can it or will it be able to be productively managed and implemented the same way that it was intended to be used for the music production and editing side of Cakewalk? If it can be done in this manner then maybe as developers you could 1. Release a completely separate dedicated full version of the movie production / editing software suite that has been hiding inside of Cakewalk since the beginning of its time? This would allow you to manage both systems independently of each other. I don't think that in today's market that anyone is actually heavily using Cakewalk for video production and editing at all anymore. 2. Release a separate dedicated book of universal foundational codes strictly pertaining to the usage of video editing? I know the video editing industry is a different beast in itself but since the basic features are already in the grasp of Cakewalk then maybe consider running with it and creating an all-in-one music production and movie production / editing powerhouse of a company to be reckoned with? I think it's time for the Cakewalk entertainment industry takeover since it is after all one of the original powerhouses when considering the countless amount of user features that other software companies have emulated from it. Thank you for reading this Meng, I hope for the best.

Hi I think the there's some Feature TDFKAS need to have in order to earn film composer and video game music composer. There are plenty of things can not be achieved using sonar, but it's the necessary feature on film scoring and video game music production.
1) Feature - Tempo track(like Steinberg Cubase). [Sonar can not copy, paste, disable or move the tempo line,if I draw a lot of tempo change, then I want slow everything down by 10BPM,the only way to do this is to re-draw everything.that makes a film music composer impossible to work.I think this feature should be given top priority. ]
2) Feature - Marker track(like Steinberg Cubase). Also an essential feature
3)Feature -Metronome improvement and metronome track export. [Will be a very handy Feature when a film composer need to record the orchestra and prepare the click track for the orchestra] 4)Feature -"count-in" measures(or Bar Number offset),allow user to start a sequence at measure -1 or 3 ect,
5)bugs-Improve the compability with Vienna Ensemble pro.I'v test on many daws only sonar behave like this. [1.open a Cakewalk sonar project with VE plugin, the VE server will automaticly loding, and then daw is freezed until terminate the ve server. 2.change the buffer setting in Sonar, hit ok.and the daw will freeze.] 6)Feature -arranger track(like Steinberg Cubase) [A handy feature to songwriter] 7)Feature -Retrospective MIDI Record(like cubase and protools 2018) And by the way .If TDFKAS can load vst's by mutiple computers via network, like Vienna Ensemble did.I think Every Film music composer will turn to TDFKAS.I know it will take years to develope this feature.but for now, please improve some compability with Vienna ensemble.
Thanks again meng ^_^

Add a section to preferences that allows setting meter preferences, i.e. hold, lock etc, for all meter in one go, not as present.
