Another one... I never liked take lanes. Waaay back (mebbe PA9 or SONAR 1XL) when I was looping and doing multi takes, I could set it to *make* a new track and store take there. 5 takes would equal 5 tracks and each but most recent would be muted. This was (for me) *much* easier to work with than lanes. If there is a way to set this behavior in SPlat, I haven't found it. If it's there, please tell me, peeps. Otherwise, consider this a feature request.

Right click the record button, then select "Store Takes in Separate Tracks" and unselect "Create New Lanes".

Fix ACT mapping focus with regards to the console view ProChannel. Hasn't worked right since X3, X2 and X1 where it worked flawlessly. Noel knows about this. ;-)

I have it well documented with show and tell videos and a spreadsheet if you need a refresher.

Thank you.

Thanks, Meng, for the opportunity to give some input into this. I use Sonar as a songwriting tool as well as a recording and mixing tool. As such, my number one ask is for the ability to seamlessly add and delete measures from the middle of a project, and drag sections around, having the TEMPO as well as all the clips and controllers follow everything around. Right now the only way to delete measures and close up the hole is to literally have a clip in every single track where you want the deletion to occur.

Some other wish list items:
  • Add a tempo track to the track view window and replace the cumbersome to edit stepped tempo entries with a standard envelope. It works for MIDI cc's so I don't see any reason it shouldn't work with tempo as well.
  • I often bristle at the limitation of adding plugins either before or after the Prochannel, but cannot put them within or use PC modules before and after other plug-ins. This would easily be overcome my eliminating the plug-in bay and creating a PC module that can be populated with any vst effect.
  • Certain folder options should follow the project folder - for instance import and export audio should default (or have the option to default) to the project folder so when I bounce between different songs I don't have to chase the folder structure all the time, too.
  • Ability to use the scroll wheel on my mouse to control any control I'm hovering over
So I've hit my limit of 5 - very excited to see what the future holds.

Hi. Long-time Cakewalk/Sonar User here...

4) Get rid of the dead weight... Personally, the .cal scripts never did nothing for me and though the rest of the platform has been developed consistently, .cal and the instrument configurations have not been updated for several major releases. I appreciate application integration if it helps with performance, otherwise, it’s just one more place for something to go wrong and crash the whole Program...

I often use .cal scripts, I find them very useful, hope they don't discontinue them, if you don't like them, don't use them, I never had a .cal script crash Sonar!

Can I just add a note of caution. I've just read through all the posts so far and whilst there are some good suggestions there are also some requested 'improvements' I don't agree with and don't want. So please don't assume everything listed here is unanimously wanted by ALL users.  Can I suggest you will need a process to sift out the improvements that will meet with wide, if not universal, approval.

Thank You Mr. Meng

2) Feature - Lyric Track, Track Sketches feature, Alternative Tracks triggered by MIDI, Random etc.. Story Board Functions to help Arranging und Stucturing including Arranging Templates (of Music Styles like Electro,Techno, etc.).

DAW Modularization over Network
Means that you can split the program to, for example, play 20 tracks on PC 1 and 20 tracks on PC 2.
This would mean that several DAW's can be coupled via TCP IP.
Advantage would be more power and opportunities for collaboration of multiple remote users.
Especially if you could run video on another PC I would be glad.
Support the new MIDI standard. See https://www.midi.org/arti...-midi-ci-specification
3) Feature like other DAW's ARA 2 Support, Chord Track, 3D Audio Support, Better support for music notation

Hi Meng, I'm very happy because the Sonar will be developed. I work mainly in midi, so:

1. Improvement of CC editing in PRV (smart tool isn't work properly, and with many CC Sonar is laggy )
2. I wish tempo editing like automation lane, with curves, and easy manipulating. Tempo view need update (zooming,  scrolling)
3. Midi record timing - notes are recorded too early. I dont know why. I'writing in Cubase too, and it's correct.
4. Option for softsynth outputs activation, i.e. Kontakt 64 out...
5. Overall efficiency improving, and audio engine smoothing:)

Thank you Bandlab, I hope for a long cooperation.

If anything, sorry for my English...

Another feature reguest for the next forum to come: an own thread for feature requests where users are able to vote for specific requests. The Presonus Forum has something like that, very helpful http://answers.presonus.com/questions/studio-one-feature-requests?sort=votes

Re: Feature Requests + Improvements [New 29/3/2018] 2018/03/29 22:47:50 (permalink)
Meng thanks for taking on, with the intent of improving, the best music software in the industry!

My suggestion is:
Driver isolation is a big issue with me.

ASIO, and Windows 10 seem to be a rub for me.

Only one device at a time and nothing seems to interconnect.

It would be nice if I could use one device to record and pass the playback off to another or several devices for other speaker A-B ing.

This would probably take close work with Microsoft sound device manufacturers and creating new standards to address these issues. Windows seems to want control of these resources more so than not with Cortana and other apps like Skype wanting control of audio inputs and outputs.

Virtual drivers and virtual cables built into Cakewalk and the audio interfaces would be nice. Every time I go to load or change the bit rate and hertz of a project I get a message this device is in use. It would be nice to have some panel come up and list each device and what is using it. Instead I end up going on a chase to shut down programs that might be using devices.

Maybe what I am asking is impossible but I thought I would just toss this one out there. I write this with apprehension that a fix might make things even more complicated to use. But, a "driver in use view" along with the other views in Cakewalk would be a start. It would save me a lot of time spent troubleshooting "driver in use" issues.

And once again, thanks for buying Cakewalk!

Meng, thanks again for listening!

There's a lot of good stuff here, I only got through page 1 so if this has been stated already....sorry:

- Ability to reorder tracks in the Console view (without modifiers)
- Ability to change the layout/style of track/console views per track (ala REAPER layouts)
- More options for custom toolbar setup, more actions to choose from (also ala Reaper)
- Let us mark plugins as favorites, have a favorite plugin category
- Unlimited UNDO even when the project/Sonar closes
- Automatic fades/cross fades during editing.  More fade curve options
EDIT - one more:  How about a Project View like Studio ONE 3?

I do not take it as a rude comment but as a helpful one. I completely understand that it could be user error. I only recently started to try this feature, as I have only been using VSTi’s. I just recently got into playing Bass and I could not get it to work. Well for poops and squiggles I decided to reinstall SONAR and now the input echo button is working. So I will chalk it up to a computer glitch. However in the future I am positive that there will be plenty of user error questions (on my part) that I will ask for help on. I have always had friendly help on this forum.

It works for me fine too. I play my electric guitar through many different guitar amps in real-time with no problems at all.

I suggest the original poster as an experienced user to help him on Skype, because he must be missing a step, either that or his pc performance is not fast enough or soundcard has too much latency.

Update: I'm glad to hear Liquid Noise found a solution that has worked for him!

Another vote for an audiosnap update. I've said this many times before, but for the record: the underlying tech is great, and the quality of end results can be superb. But the GUI and workflow are really confusing, and the stability is pretty bad too.

Aside from general usability and stablilty, making multitrack audiosnap editing simpler would be very welcome.

Thanks Meng!

This is gonna be quite a job to go through so many items. I'm very grateful!

Though there are likely more urgent issues, these are what come to mind right now...

Sonar Ideas
1) bring back cc draw tools
2) create switch to toggle Track image while Lanes visible
3) solve closing unruly 32bit VSTs in X64 causing crashes
4) cleanup Track View vs. PRV snap issues
5) FR: user loop list for fast switching between different loops

Re: Feature Requests + Improvements [New 29/3/2018] 2018/03/30 01:21:59 (permalink)
For playing live, I would like to see the playlist feature revamped.  One particular problem is if track automation exists, which I use a lot, and the song is done playing, Sonar thinks something has changed and asks you if you want to save the song which totally interrupts the live flow.  Unless you answer that question, it will not unload the songs as they continue to play which bogs down the computer.  It's just awkward.  For this particular problem, all that's needed is for an option for Sonar to ignore any song changes.  There have been other playlist related issues posted by other forum members that could be easily searched.

1)  Composer Chord Tool - Think Toontrack EZKeys within Sonar - but with a bigger chord display up top
2)  Improved efficiency - i.e. the ability to run more effects/tracks/instruments with the same Processor and RAM spec
3)  Stability across Each unforseen Windows update
4)  Control Surfaces - seems like Sonar never seems to have out of the box integration with other manufactures' products
5)  More Pro-Level Prochannel effects (some of them need an update in quality, some effects just don't exist in that format)

+ 6)  Artificial Intelligence integration, the track assist type of features in Izotope Products are great for starting points or getting ideas - if those kinds of tools could be integrated into the DAWs tool sets (LP EQ, LP Comp, Limiter, etc) analyzing within and across tracks, it could be a game changer for the beginner to intermediate DAW user.  However, I know getting to Izotope's level or better would be a major feat.  Just wishful thinking.  I've said before I'm not a fan of LANDAR, but the quality of Izotope's AI and tool set is a different animal, not to mention the ability to full tweak after the AI makes changes.
