I've noticed more and more new systems coming with WIN 7 x64 installed from the factory. When folks ask what that is they're told it lets you use more RAM and that's it.
So they happily go off with new PC or lappy under arm and use x64 without really knowing what they've done. It just becomes a completely transparent operatyion to them and they could care less.
that's the case with my current HP i7 laptop which I didn't buy for exclusiove audio work and Win 7 x64 is completely transparent except that in some windows you'll see the 64bit logo. Other than that you wouldn't know unless you know about such things.

There are cases when an XP 32 system is still needed. In my own case (won't go into specific details as to why), I have to have one XP 32 system in order to run an old version of Finale: 2005b.
Other than that type of issue - old program, old card, no updated drivers - 64 bit is great. Especially for any computer that will be used to run newer sound sample libraries, a 64 bit o/s is essential - one only needs to look at specs for EWQL, and VSL libraries (not to mention software like MIR or MIR SE).

Hi all 64 bit savvy people.
I finally have Windows 7 Pro 64. Just waiting to get more ram and a new hdd.
Its been a long time since I new of 64 bit computing and it looks like I am nearly there.
One thing I will miss, unless I decide to install Sonar 64 and 32 is rewire support. I know where I stand on the subject and frankly I sit with the people scratching their heads asking why PH, why?
I will post back once I have everything working.
The post count is outrages.

Hi Mavafamusic,
Welcome to the club! :-) Yeah, PH is one of the few developers most people are waiting on before they switch to a 64 bit system. However, you can use Rewire by installing Sonar 32, even in a 64 bit system (which I believe is what you mentioned, but I wasn't sure). That will give you total functionality over those stubborn 32 bit apps :-P.

Just installed Win 7 64 bit today on a new drive. It's a hoot! Just got to load all my gigglebytes of soft synths, ewql orchestra and choirs and and...it's going to be a long night / weekend

Overloud is not on the master list, they have been 64 bit native for quite a while now. http://www.overloud.com/products.php Procucts inclued Breverb, TH-1 Guitar effects suite and VKFX vintage effects suite for keyboard players.

UAD2 plugins are still 32-bit and don't behave with BitBridge. They don't pass the track & file names to Sonar. jBridge works better.

I couldn't get UAD to behave any better with jBridge.
I can tell you that I'm not getting that UAD2 quad until they work perfect.

I'm running 64 bit Vista with Sonar X1a 64 with all of my 32 bit UAD pluggins on a UAD express interface. I own about 19 UAD pluggins with no problem at all. I just insert them into my audio track as effects (track or bus) and they work just fine. The worked fine in sonar 8.5.3 as well. As a matter of fact, to test it, I just opened one instance of each pluggin and they all opened and operate. BTW, my 32 bit Anteres pluggins work just fine also. I own "ALL" of them. I never installed a bit bridge of any kind. I just installed X1 and they work.

The small difference is that I am on 8.5.3 and Win 7-64. The plug-ins work with BitBridge but they don't pass label values to Sonar - plug-in name, track and project/file. The problem is reported here etc. If you are getting those labels with BitBridge that's interesting. "All of my LAD plug-ins work great without any bridges." is that accurate or are you assuming no BitBridge? If you are running the 64 bit version of Sonar, it uses BitBridge automatically in the background. You should be able to see BitBridge as a process in System Monitor or when the plug-in is minimized they appear as a Bit-Bridge icon in the lower screen.

This is a great resource. A couple of corrections and updates for your 64-bit plugin list.
Native Instruments Reaktor 5.5 is still a 32-bit plugin. There is no 64-bit version. It would be fantastic if there were as it's one of my favorites. While Kore Player standalone is 64-bit, the VST plugin is still 32-bit.
Additions to your 64-bit plugin list are:
Dune from Synapse Audio
ElectraX and Gladiator from Tone 2.

Is this the first 64 bit only product. ZeroG's Spiritoso -- " REQUIREMENTS Kontakt's Time Machine 2 algorithm requires it to run entirely in memory.
