Where are the forum moderators?

Hello Cakewalk-

I hope the forum moderators will step up and do something. Please enforce your own rules about avatars and language, at least, since these forums are open to all.

Thanks-

-Susan

I agree Susan - I think that a small minority of the Male members of this group don't take the Female gender and age groups into account, it's not too difficult to have a reasonable Avatar and sense of whats right and wrong in some of the Posts language and content. In saying that though there are a lot of perfect Gentlemen around here who would agree with you. I include myself in that group as well.

And especially nonsense OT threads, like "Republican's with thin lips."

But they did step up there -- they moved it to "Off-Topic"!

    You misquoted me, BTW...

Regression to the primordial ----- I sense this thread might regress to what it started out against in the first instance.

“Obnoxity” is subjective in the context of the generality of all cultures. What may be obnoxious to others may be compliments or music to the others.

Free speech, free speak may defend the freedom for it.

I havent been hanging out here much. I find the atmosphere to be a little more pro on some other forums. For some reason this one has gotten really annoying in the last year. Not as much in a way that can be moderated, as there arent so many cursewords or lewd references. Its just to the point where you cant post anything without getting 80% smart aleck reponses. So I spend my time procrastinating on other forums. Like TOMB or REP.

There are also two fairly annoying things. People only ever use the Sonar producer forum. Nobody uses "Gear" or "Techniques". Heck even the guitar tracks guys come in here and post about how they cant get their soundblaster 3000 platinum to work in asio or something. On a lot of other boards the mods will move a post to the correct location.
the other one is the snarky "use the search function..." or "try google" comments. Yeah there are recurring threads. but somtimes folks HAVE searched the previous threads and not found what they want. Sometimes google is a bunch of white noise.

Which avatars and what language are we speaking of here? Could you be a bit more specific? To what exactly are the forum admins supposed to step up to? (please pardon my dangling preposition) I mean your original post is fairly generic. Is there someone(s) or something(s) that has particularly run afoul of the TOS in your opinion? I guess I kind of feel like this is like one of those "we can't help you until you provide us your system specs" sort of deals. As my momma would say, "what's got ya so het up, girl"? Just curious.

Have fun elsewhere then. BTW The forum is only as good as those in it.

This is my point. All you have to do is answer with the right information. When a member posts in a way you think is inadequate you have the power to post the proper answer. If you don't participate in this community then you have no right to bash it. Be part of the solution and not just kibitz on the side.

    Hi calaveras

Well, I work with too many adolescent males as it is, but I can't very well complain about their behavior when I come to this forum and see the same sort of thing here. I'm uncomfortable clicking on the SONAR forum page these days, what with the avatars, the "Itchy and Scratchy Show" and the veiled, "wink-wink" vulgarities.

    Hey Susan,

Are you talking about Richard's "sausage avatar"? Because while initially I too thought it was a bit too demeaning, upon it's revelation as part of an (all too appropriate) packaged meat product I found it to be quite stunning in both it's irony and ability to force one to honestly face one's own misguided preconcieved notions and knee-jerk reactions. As Jinga himself might say, "Yay, Richard"! But for the life of me (and you have honestly peaked my curiosity here) I have no clue what you mean by the "Itchy and Scratchy Show". As to the "wink-wink" vulgarities, veiled or not, I gotta agree with you (even when I'm quite often guilty my ownself). But my question is just how politically correct do we have to be and to suit who?

Oh yea, almost forgot the required smiley face.

It's really a shame how Cakewalk has let this place go. There's a very simple solution that wouldn't cost Cake a penny: accept help from volunteer moderators. It was suggested before the demise of the coffeehouse but never accepted. As much fun as it was in it's heyday, the Coffeehouse section was was expendable. This forum isn't and should be run in a much more professional manner. It's become a running joke among some long-time members to see how long certain thread will go on...and go on they do, for pages and pages. Cakewalk dust up this place. Volunteer assistant mods would be a good way to start.

This was directed to the forum moderators, so no need for anyone here to help. I'm a little surprised that some of what's gone on lately is considered acceptable under the TOS, that's all. If you're comfortable with all of it, fine, and if you have no idea what I'm talking about that's fine, too!

Maybe what we need is a "forum administrator mailbox" feature. So one could speak and send suggestions directly to them bypassing the forum altogether. That way one would know their message, inquiry or gripe was definitely seen by them and the exchange could be a private one. An added bonus would be that dim-bulbs like myself or anyone, really, would not become engaged and either perpetuate an harangue or muddy the waters. Or is there such a thing?

(and to Altima) Yes, I'm well aware of the Simpsons and Itchy and Scratchy, I just didn't know how Susan was applying it here. . .you've helped me understand a bit, but only just.

It may be directed toward the "moderators" but it is now a public thread unlocked and open to all. I too am trying to guess what might be the offending postings that you find unacceptable. I have my own group of posters that I find just a bit tiresome at times. I also have come up against a poster that I found rather scary. That was taken care of. Most here are in my view very nice people. In any group there is bound to be some that irritate without even knowing that they do. That is life.

Right, John, thanks. I know that. This was directed to the forum moderators. If there's no response from them by early next week I'll e-mail them directly, but typically I do hear back.

well i dont know what you want to imply by saying you work with too many adolescent males...
since you started a discussion about sexism (obviously against women) in an other thread - i find it a bit confusing that now you try to sort of discredit "adolescent males" what do you mean with this? is there some inherent difference between males who are adolescent and "grown ups" or do adolescent girls behave better than boys? all of them??? do you have empirical data? or would you please specify which race of adolescent males you are talking about? because even if i personally dont give much about political correctness, i would remind you that by your own standards you are being sexist...
so what is the use of wanting a sort of postmoral cleansing on the forum but not sticking to your own principles...
and btw what do you expect from a place where people communicate? i dont wanna defend vulgar or personal attacks but i think that censorship sucks... do you write to news station to tell them not to send violent news or do you think that kiddies might learn wrong things on a sonar forum? come on ... the internet is full of filth - so i wouldn´t feel that bad about this here...

best regards and take it easy - people elsewhere are hungry/sick/poor/exploited or killed by wars - so maybe just resize your concerns about itchy and scratchy and some bugger on an internet thread
