We don't have to agree to disagree, the stats are here, as I said look out for windows 8.0 and 8,1 and add them together, then compare it to all the other OS's apart from Windows 7 which clearly has a stranglehold:

I hated Windows 8 when I first got it ….it certainly took me a long while to warm up to it …
One day while I was using it ,
I made the connection in my mind that the Win 8 start page w all the tiles and stuff was just a poorly executed 
hybrid of a Windows style take on the OSX Launchpad and Dashboard combined together at the same time …
That may or may not be what they had in mind , but that is sure what it reminded me of….
After it loads I just hit enter and go straight to desktop 99% of the time …
I got used to not having a start menu and I don't even miss it ….
 
I got to say the OS itself under the hood seems rock solid …I've throw everything including the kitchen sink at it .
Win 8 hasn't tapped out on me yet …I guess if I had to , I can probably stay on 8 …

Heck, the entire Military-Industrial complex will be keeping files on you. But hey, no worries, you’ll be doing your part to empower Big Business, Big Brother, etc. Once upon a time, using Microsoft products empowered the user. A different story now. Don't kid yourself.

I'm not one to say I have nothing to hide. That misses the point even though I don't have anything to hide. I do object to an infringement on my privacy simply because it belongs to me and no one else. Nor do I believe that without a court of law allowing this can it be done. You may say I trust too much and you may be right but I refuse to live my life thinking paranoid thoughts about what could be.

That says nothing about me! I'll believe I'm being tracked when you show me the tracking data on me from the NSA.

It's been technically trivial to track what people do online for a long time now. The battle over this will be fought (and won or lost, or more likely constantly wrestled over) in the courts and at the ballot box, not in people's OS choices.

I'm busy getting ready to reinstall Windows 10, so I can get it activated. Had to go back to Win 7 because in 4 days my Windows 10 installation still didn't get activated. I can't even customize or personalize my settings without Windows 10 being activated. I have a Genuine activated copy of Win 7 Pro, but Windows 10 still didn't get activated for me yet, when I upgraded using the Creation Media Tool. Now I'm gonna try running the Windows 10 ISO inside of Win 7 and see if that works.

What steps do you all recommend to take in Windows 10 to avoid an invasion of privacy by Microsoft or anyone else? I wasn't aware that using Cortana opens up spyware in Windows 10 in a way that one's activity on Windows 10 is being tracked.

You know, I set up an entire thread devoted to bashing Win 10 with informed speculation. Why not cap this thread. No one seems interested in the original topic any more.
 
There's enough things to be paranoid about, lets put it all in one corner so we can focus.

Doktor: Windows 8 & 8.1 are not "popular" at all, it was bundled with machines and people HAD to buy it. If there were a CHOICE involved, I'd say MOST people would have chosen just about any previous version of windows compared to Windows 8/8.1. The corporate example I gave was just one of people who had a choice. I bet you OEM sales paled in comparison to people buying the Windows 7 in terms of percentage. The weblink doesn't validate people who actually WANTED Windows 8 or are satisfied with it, so the numbers are just noise. Look at who has a major shares of ISPs in America and Comcast is most likely among them, but if you try to sell "people like Comcast" based on mere numbers, I have swampland in the desert for you. We all (should)know Comcast is the Devil in disguise as an ISP.
 
Yes, under the hood 8 was more efficient (as is 10). Yes, UEFI provides faster boot times. But the workflow was ****(unless you have a touchscreen, then I think it works a lot better) and thus people didn't want it. And if any person can show me on windows 8/8.1 how to change to a "classic" start menu NOT using a third-party app on a go-to meeting or the like, lunch is on me (no B.S. links on "how-to" ). That has been 90% rectified with 10. 
 
Still, 10 isn't a game-changer enough to rush to anything. There are still plenty of issues being worked out. If one is building a new machine, then Win10 all the way. If you have a 4 year old DAW that still isn't hitting rim on resources, then you shouldn't rush out because it isn't that major.
