I tried eyoControl and it's actually very nice for controlling SONAR. It knows about SONAR as it is one of the DAW options you can choose. You can even get live VUs on the iPad in addition to everything else. I noticed there are a few threads here that mention eyoControl, so it isn't news, just saying that it is quite nice for those that haven't tried it.

One of those threads mention how Studio One has its own dedicated iPad app, so maybe there will be a SONAR one come June 1? Could be big-ish but then again not every SONAR user has an iPad or would go out and buy one just for that, so most likely not the big announcement even if it turns out to be true.

Something for i-Pad and Android could be useful (I only have the latter).

Surface and/or Android pad make more sense than iPad support, IMHO.  SONAR is Win only, so most of us don't do iPads.  I realize many people may be live sound engineers, and iPads had the early lead in that arena, but with the Behringer X32 and others adding Surface support the options are wider now.  I have no interest in paying 3X the cost of an Android pad in order to get an Apple product that is a stripped-down device anyway.  At least the surface can work as a full-function PC in addition to being a very good tablet.

And for the person who just wants the remote control function and doesn't really care about architectures per se, you can't beat the value of the Android pads.  Under 100 bucks for a 10" pad.

I have a Surface Pro 2 and would prefer a remote control on that for SONAR as well. But I reluctantly got the iPad because as a pure tablet, the Surface just doesn't have a good selection of apps, so I use it mostly as a laptop. The ironic exception is the desktop version of OneNote, but used in tablet mode with the (real) stylus (i.e., not one of those fat-tipped wannabe things that pass as a stylus for iPad). The Store, i.e. crippled version of OneNote is really bad compared to the desktop version.

But realistically, the number of iPads/Android compared to Surface is the problem.

Don't care much for Apple products...If that's the big news, would be good for Cake, no doubt, but it would be kind of a disapointement for lots of folks........

Well I felt a need to just make it clear we aren't changing the name of SONAR when we just announced lifetime updates for Platinum. That would not be cool.

a sonar iphone/ipad (or whatever phone) mobile studio app would be awesome, like fl studio mobile but a lite version of sonar, sketch ideas on the bus/train/toilet, save and boom, they are available in full DAW sonar too, one click project sync solution..ready to be fleshed out ...(no need for save midi, mail and rebuild synths etc etc..)... mmmMmmmm

I think a Mac version would, long term, do a lot of good for Sonar.  When I lived in LA,  about 6 years ago, I found that a ton of music professionals just wouldn't take anything that didn't run on a Mac seriously.

Personally I think this is a ridiculous attitude to have.  A computer is just a tool, and you should use whatever tool you think works best for you.  But because Macs moved into the music industry first, they have had a foothold there for a long time and a lot of people will never give them up.

Unfortunately a Mac version doesn't mean SONAR will automatically have fewer bugs. If anything, both the PC and Mac versions will probably end up having more bugs due to having to then spread resources thinner across two platforms. Unless the code is mostly cross-platform, but even that makes things more complicated compared to supporting just one platform.

Since we're all guessing: I think Cakewalk will consolidate Sonar Artist, Pro, and Platinum into one product. This will simplify product development, documentation, testing, etc. We've already been told that the majority of the customers are Artist. To get a better revenue and up-sell stream CW will benefit by everyone having ProChannel, and seeing the benefits of the improved work flow and functionality.

SPLAT members are probably the most vocal (though a small part of the revenue stream), so we're been thrown a bone with the lifetime membership, so we don't get too irritated that the Artist members get the essence of Platinum at a "reduced" cost.

I guess we'll know in a few days ...

Sonar Platinum, EWHO/D, Spitfire, Miroslav, Pianoteq, ....,  Kurzweil.

SONAR Arprotinum?

We've already been told that the majority of the customers are Artist.

This rumor started because during a particular period of time, the majority of new users chose Artist. I don't believe the majority of all customers are on Artist, but someone from Cakewalk would be in a better position to know.

That's funny. To mimic everyone else releasing software, it should be Sonar X, but that's already taken! Cakewalk was a decade ahead on naming. I propose SonarOne (maybe not good either), or Sonar Proartinum. LOL

Maybe just go ahead, declare victory, and buy ProTools from Avid. There's at least a 100 page thread in that!

Got to admit that I'm delighted to see Cakewalk and you engage the community. I cannot think of any other vendor that is engaged to the level CW and you are.

OK, slogging through all 32 pages of this thread should give me license to toss out a few brief observations.

I've been using Cake/Sonar since a fellow programmer on the CompuServe MIDI forum, a guy named Greg, suggested I give his new CP/M sequencer a try. I think that was 1987 (CP/M had actually been co-opted as MSDOS), and prior to that date I had been making do with the weird, unsupported, but insanely fast parallel control system in my Rhodes Chroma with a flakey Apple ][. Consequently, moving onto a stable CP/M system with a fully functioning MIDI card was a huge relief. One thing Greg seemed fanatically devoted to, and which is the main reason I've stayed with Cake and now Sonar all this time, is convenience for the user. That meant personal support, since 12-Tone was a microscopic company, but it also meant that Cakewalk was easy to use. And it kept getting easier and easier, even with its original character-mode UI. Somebody was thinking like a user

There's been a lot of water under the bridge since Greg hung up his paper tape punch, but one thing really has been consistent for (virtually) 30 years (big celebration next year?) -- Cake is still trying to be the most convenient DAW out there, and I see that in the coherence of developer dedication that has survived all the transitions, and in the continuous improvement of the DAW, and in the tireless, friendly attention to every single issue here on the forum, by Andrew especially (and Noel and everybody else), and most recently by this unexpected and wonderful lifetime membership deal.

So big thanks for all that, and keep it coming, and I'll stretch my lifetime as long as I possibly can -- making music.

Allen

My guess, for what its worth is the big news will be about either a dedicated midi controller to over shadow the baddddd and not a good bad roland a800 - pro (yes I am allowed to say bad cause I own one)  or........maybe a dedicated console like the v700 that will actually work with cakewalk products.  ok What are my odds on being right?

I'm curious about the lifetime upgrade. Does the lifetime upgrade give the same options that the current 12 month option gives? The 12 month option gave those members things like vocal sync and help integration, but it also updated plugins and added new things like AAS analog synth.

Surface and/or Android pad make more sense than iPad support, IMHO.  SONAR is Win only, so most of us don't do iPads.

Surface is already Windows and so Sonar already runs on Surface tablets (except the already dead RT models). Also, I'm sure there are many folks like myself who use Windows on the desktop/laptop but also have iPads in house.
