Mosvalve I would think Cakewalk would have to change the activation so we can still use Sonar. Didn't we buy a license for it? Didn't they say we own it? Is there not a legal aspect to this kind of situation?

My membership expired, can I still use my software? This depends on if you officially "own" it. - If you paid "upfront" or through the "annual" payment option, then you are given 12 months of updates and automatically own your version of SONAR.
- If you paid "monthly" or through the "rent-to-own" payment option, then you must complete 12 consecutive payments to obtain ownership status.
How do I check if I "own" my version of SONAR?Simply launch SONAR and then go to the Help > About menu. If you see the words "S tatus: owned", then you own it!

garry All I want is the ability to re-install my lifetime license software without having to phone home to a server that may or may not be running when/if I need it.
Exactly my main concern also.

Karyn, That is all well and good. Actually the thing to do. But I guess long timers like myself with tons of $$$ worth of CW plugs and vsts are just out of luck. Of course, we have to take what we can get. At least I can really clean up my plug in management :-)

Ironic really - I decided to quit updating in March of this year having bought an annual membership, so MY Sonar Pro shows up as Owned. I jumped ship to Reaper back in the days of Sonar 8.5.3 but still used Sonar for some MIDI authoring until Reaper upped their gm on MIDI a while back. Bought the updates more out of sentimentality than anything else but I am SO glad I didn't get suckered into that lifetime deal. Cynical old git that I am, for me that offer immediately spelled it out: The carpetbaggers are getting ready to bale out and sure enough they did. This is of course the problem you always get when a company that started out as a tiny but moderately successfull "family" business reaches the point where the kids either take over and are successful in keeping things rocking or sell out to the highest bidder. Gibson stopped being Gibson long before Henry arrived on the scene, just as Sonar bcame an orphan when the Bakers baled. FWIW I went through a LOT of DAW demo versions, bought Reaper and Studio One - already had Tracktion but couldn't get on with it. I have hovered on the brink of looking elsewhere once I decided Reaper was the one & am very glad I didn't. I hope Studio One is a little less cpu hungry and a lot more reliable than the version 2.6.2 that I baled on, but for my money its Reaper and recently Mixbus 4 for mixing for me. But yeah I hope the newly-unemployed guys get themselves fixed up fast. Shame.

I just tried and couldn't download them either. Did you manually trash them? If not: Whenever you download anything from center it is downloaded to a folder first, then auto install begins. In command Center click on the setup gear on top right of CC window. You will see 2 tabs. Paths is one of them. That will tell you where the files were downloaded to.

I sure wish that I could purchase one final update. The version I currently own has suited me fine, but if this is my last chance for a "bite at the Apple" I would like to have the latest assuming it would allow me to use the software a bit longer before it becomes incompatible with a follow upon version of Windows.

TTS-1, Vintage Channel and LP64 EQ won't work for me in Reaper, but most of the Sonitus Suite does, and LP 64 Multiband. I'm exporting my Reaper projects to Sonar for final mastering, so I can use VC and LP 64 EQ. I have had ro give up my favorite Tuba in TTs-1. I think my problem may be that my version is only 8.5, so my plugs have not been updated beyond that.

Missing Rapture Pro Soundpacks and SONAR Platinum 3rd Party Sample Collectionsstratman70
AndrewLMacaulay Just found that a load of Rapture Pro sample packs have gone from the servers - can't download them either using Command Centre or from the website (also posted in the Instruments forum). http://forum.cakewalk.com/Rapture-Pro-Instrument-Packs-No-Longer-Downloading-m3692915.aspx
I just tried and couldn't download them either. Did you manually trash them?
I had trashed them as was running out of space a while ago (have it all on an SSD disk for speed and noise). Just had some feedback from scook that they might have repackaged the packs some time ago.... (update) HOWEVER, in looking through the presets, I can't find the Grand Harp or PianetT in the ones installed, and would expect these given the full list of packs that are no longer downloading. The list apparently missing for Rapture Pro is: - Legacy Content Pack Vol 1 - Legacy Content Pack Vol 2 - Legacy Content Pack Vol 3 - Gibson Content Pack Vol 4 - Analog Content Pack Vol 5 - Orchestral Content Pack Vol 6 - Pianos Content Pack Vol 7 - Organs Content Pack Vol 8 - World FX Content Pack Vol 9 - Concert Grand Harp Content Pack Vol 10 - PianetT Content Pack Vol 11 - Clavinet Content Pack Vol 12 And having looked into this further, it seems that they disappeared with UP3 based on the forum message from back then, see http://forum.cakewalk.com/FindPost/3344029 and having looked through the presets, they are definitely missing from the presets (I had done a rebuild) so probably lost forever :-( There also seems to be a similar issue with some of the sample packs included with SONAR Platinum, specifically: - (original) Anderton Collection (although 30th Anniversary Anderton Collection covers most if not all of these)- Cakewalk Loopmasters Content Collection - Cakewalk Sample Magic Content Collection - Cakewalk X-MiX Content Collection So my question is, does anyone have the original downloads for these - I can share evidence of owning the software if there is a way to get copies of these.

I had trashed them as was running out of space a while ago (have it all on an SSD disk for speed and noise). Just had some feedback from scook that they renamed the packs some time ago, and that the old names seem to be still showing in Command Centre... about to go through the presets to check, but think that the old set of 12 packs were rolled into the D-Pro and Rapture Classic installers. Will update on findings here and on main post (and thanks to scook).

Like all the other users and the industry at large, I was shocked to hear of Gibson’s decision to shut down Cakewalk. The improvements that came with Gibson’s association and commitment were welcomed and I often spoke very highly of the resources (financial, management and talent) that have brought the capacity of Sonar to where it now exists (notwithstanding the current news). My personal level of disappointment with Gibson is only exceeded by my gratitude and respect for the excellent work done by the Cakewalk Team with their R & D. Although I don’t have all the facts, I hope the product line will find life in a new home and that Gibson will offer some true business goodwill in helping to facilitate any potential transition (or at the very least not hinder that possibility). Sonar’s development stride over the last year or so has greatly assisted my creative life. I won’t be changing DAW’s until I no longer have a choice. Here’s to the possibility that all the good work to this point will not be left where it is today. Sincerely Yours, Michael G. So what DAW is everyone thinking of making the switch to? I don’t know how I feel about putting my eggs in a basket that’s been closed. The Pro-Channel/console simulations played a big role in my decision to jump on board with Cakewalk a few years ago. Should I just buy Waves NLS and look for something different?

Is there any chance we get get an AAF export function implemented for Sonar as a final farewell from Gibson? (OMF is only supported by a few of the DAWs). Otherwise we face a huge workload to convert using stems. Please! I'll pay!

There's a saying: " You should never trust anyone who has deceived you...even once." So pack your cakewalk crap and throw it away. This is the world we live in. I didn't go for lifetime updates but have spent my dollars just the same. Love CW, too. This is not a time for reassurances from Gibson or Cakewalk. In business there are no such thing as honor. Lifetime updates were never meant to go any further than they did. You all are good people but are not the moral compass for Gibson. I can't say I knew this would end this soon and the last minute money grab was as low as it gets. Lesson learned: Lifetime updates wasn't too good to be true only too good to be honored.

Ademir, your English isn't so bad! I understood what you said. I think they (Cakewalk) are talking about giving all present owners a key to unlock the software when, or if, the authorization servers go down. And if my +yrs have taught me anything, the servers will go down. It's just when.

First of all my best wishes to those at Cakewalk; I was looking to update my software this Black Friday, but can't do so now. Please keep us posted; if this is truly going to be the end is there any chance of updating all of us to the final version? Thank you for the 30 years; been around since the late 80s under the old Twelve Tone and MS-DOS days. Peace, Joel
