1. Implement common industry standard regarding controlling daw from midi controllers or other surfaces. Right now it is very poor, so to speak.

4. Step sequencer must become a complete tool that arpeggiator, automation (!) and pattern creation capabilities (suggestions mentions above in this thread are appreciated). Together with item 2 this would make the daw fantastic for electronic music production.

+1 I feel the same about these 2 points.

A revival of Project5 sounds interesting. At the right price, I would be interested in it AS IS.

Not until they update it to 64 bit and multi-core support.

Y'know, honestly, an arpeggiator is a skimpy sequencer, which a DAW already is.  Arpeggiators are used, I hate to say it, but by people who do not know how to compose.  It's a neat, quick, automation thing.

So if your arpeggiator is not up to snuff to your tastes, then you simply score out all the notes in the sequencer and you are doing what your arpeggiator was incapable of doing.

I have a Novation Supernova II with an arpeggiator capable of 64-steps in length.  But it turned out for logistics reason, that I preferred to play the arp part of Joe Jackson's "Steppin' Out" song with my Kurzweil's sequencer, which was programmed to play the drums and percussion, too.  I was then able to play the piano parts LIVE while all the background stuff was going on.

What I'm saying is that a Sequencer has no limits, which is what a DAW is.  The Arp stuff is a kid's fun tool, who wishes to generate neat ideas because he/she does not know how to compose them on his own.

Just take this as a challenge (not an insult) to think beyond the Arp toy.

I would love to have clip gain to be able to insert a fader or a knob on clips we decide to turn up or down..this would help in automation greatly..Thanks for letting me voice my concerns.

Hello and thank you.

Thank you for rescuing Sonar (or whatever it will come to be called) and thank you for providing this opportunity to report bugs and ask for features.

I don't have a lot to add to the feature list - except to say my priority would be improvement to the score editor - if possible including something which allows use the computer keyboard to enter notes - nobody's heard of XGWorks but it allowed users to type notes etc with the keyboard.  Very fast once you get use to it.  I know this won't be important to most users but I hope you will consider it.

The main reason I'm commenting is that I have found a bug today.

I had a couple of projects I was working on the and the same error occurred in both.

I had a few tracks and instruments set up and everything was OK.  I added an output to external midi.  Then the assignments to synths from all the other midi tracks (going to vsts) were wrong.  The first midi track was 'pointing to' the external midi even though I had not asked for this.  The next midi track was pointing to the first VST (not the second), etc.

The first time this happened I didn't realise Sonar had made the error.  And the next thing I did was delete a synth without deleting the associated tracks.  I do this to avoid losing the midi by mistake.  Then I tried to delete the audio track associated with the synth and Sonar crashed.

This should be easy enough to fix I think.

Anyway, I am very relieved and very grateful to you, Meng, and to Bandlab for all that you are doing.  I wish you all the best.

1) Need a much better midi editor and tools to make bulk operations much easier..   Reason, Cubase, and even the new Superior Drummer 3 do amazing things with midi editing.

2) Make navigation simpler.  I want audio selection and movement in the timeline to be as simple as using MS Word.  Right now, it's still a little clunky.

3) Edit VST audio outputs after you've already created the instrument.

4) Audio editing within clips still needs to be simpler.  Splitting at transients, cutting of extraneous info before the clip, moving multiple clips, etc all need to be simpler.

Can you expand on this give some examples?

I reay like what you can do dragging midi into Addictive Drums, and sculpting the dynamics with the Transform tool. You can drag straight from the step sequencer. I haven't put this in the suggestins, because we can just d it with AD2, but also because I dn't know how they would do it, unless there graup tool to allow define Hi Hats, rides etc.

Sorry. This sentence is output by google translation.

1) Bug
If you perform many copying and pasting on the MIDI track, the display contents may be broken and it may become inoperable.
2) Bug
CAL does not execute the data within the target range in the order of the event list. Therefore, it may be unexpected results.
3) Feature
Please make CAL script correspond to latest. If CAL is excluded from TDFKAS, I will use Cubase.
4) Feature
I want you to correspond not only to stereo but also multi-channel VST. I especially want you to respond to surround which works with another software.
(Example) 7.1 channel plug-in like Vienna Ensemblea Pro.

This is about to come up quickly. thank you for reading.

1. Add a pool/clean-up feature like other DAWs (e.g. Cubase, Studio One, even Pro Tools) have it where you can get rid of unused files, or rename files (even though they are currently used).
2. Multiple tracks should be moveable at once in the arranger view.
3. Add a track view feature like in Cubase (which was inspired by Pro Tool's playlist feature, but is more useful/comfortable in Cubase).
4. Better export dialog - take the best from Cubase and Ardour/Mixbus and make it even better! :)
5. Add a session import feature like in Pro Tools (and Cubase - to some extent)

I don't know at what point we are 'cause I stoped reading the posts quickly 'cause I got tired of reading about gui changes, which made me think:

Can't we just stop changing the gui's. for visual stability reasons. If we are adding stuff it's fine by me but don't remove or move stuff around just to make room for new stuff.

The same is true for putting back the good gui stuff removed over the years....

Oh, and god the colors in S3 to S8.5 are "vivid" when compared to the current "palish" one we are now stuck with......even after making changes to the colors parameters int preferences......I just could'nt resist regardless of the above....(-:

I know these things have been mentioned multiple times already but,
1. Chord track
2.Arranger track
3.Marker track
All with colors.Similar to the way Cubase handles these things.

Hi
I'm just in the process of building an AZCcontroller interface for my new MOTOR49
1) I need a command to show the Multidock, not toggle it like "D"
2) need a command to set focus on the Multidock, separate from show
3) need command to hide/show the bus pane in the multidock, make sure it retains the user set size of the bus pane and it does not reset the bus pane size like the hide/show menu item in the multidock

Thanks,

I'm so used to Sonar and like it so much that the best that could have happened, already happened: it is not dead! :)

Anyway...

1) Go back to Steam Platform would be very nice.
2) Bug: I don't know if the problem is just with my setup, but when I'm recording and have some clipped samples, instead of having a "flat top" or "flat bottom" at the peaks, the wave changes side, going from top to bottom in 1 sample, making a MONSTER glitch... It would be much better to have just a "normal" clipping...

Thanks

I use platinum..

1 - A 'Before EQ' and 'After EQ' button on the quad EQ.  Simply show the waveform before EQ or after EQ edits.

2 - Take time to analyze the best possible way to output a project (tracks, ARA edits, VST setting, automation) so that it can be imported into the top say, 3 DAWS in use by studios today.  Then, create a best practices output button for each. I work in a world of collaboration. Feasible, I have heard many reasons why one cannot, however - taking the lead on this seems intuitive to your collaboration mission.

3 - Kind of the same thing as 2, but create a tool I can point friends to, that they can run and have it build a simple project file from their DAW PC to send to me.   My friends work in a world of collaboration.

Take care

Just a quick suggestion here but would be hugely helpful.

Within projects with large track counts, lots of AUX tracks and patch points, upon setting up a send you're presented with a huge list to scroll through. This looks like the standard Windows list-box. I'd like an organised list, grouped into types with collapsable sections. In general, I'd like to see the new DAW present information like this in custom controls and not the bog-standard windows controls.

Thanks ;-)

Another bug that annoys me on a regular basis....

Unfreeze synth followed by undo unfreeze synth (ctrl-Z) makes the track become hidden.

Also, not a bug as such as I think by some kind of logic it's intended behaviour, but if I scroll to a track and unfreeze it the display reverts back to whatever track last had the focus unless I shift the focus of that track first. To me it stands to reason that if I'm unfreezing a synth track, that is the one that I am going to be working on so the focus should automatically switch to that track.

Project Sync Groups (PSG's)

This is not a new idea. I've suggested it a couple of years ago.

Scenario
(Example) I recorded a 15 song (15 projects) of a punk band, where the drums, bass, and rhythm guitars are all recorded the same way. I mix one song, and within seconds, can copy the mix of drums, bass, guitars (maybe even vocals) over to the other 14 songs in a simple dialogue/wizard. If I go back and change a kick drum, for example, I can merely update the other mixes without even having to load them in Sonar by the click of a single button.

What can a PSG help with?
After mixing song #1, I put on a movie and manually copy all settings from the one mixed song to all other projects. It takes hours in some cases, because there is currently no suitable method to automate this. After all mixes are submitted to the artist, if the artist later decides she doesn't like the sound of the bass, for example, I will update one mix, get her approval, then have to open all other projects and update the bass there, as well.

Notes
  • In the dialogue/wizard, you can choose what elements on which tracks in a list of projects need to be updated/copied. Think of the wizard as being sort of like the Export dialogue.
  • Only the active project in Sonar is the current master.
  • Only changes are applied. If a project's settings are corrupted, the engineer can opt for a full-sync of all PSG elements.
  • As the mix progresses, you can add/remove elements or tracks and even remove or add projects from the PSG (Project Sync Group).
  • (software) If a new Send is created, ask to create it, or automatically create it and report it.
  • (software) If a failure occurs, report it (may be reported before changes are applied)
  • Templates are 'a' way to accomplish this, but require the arduous, time-consuming process of importing audio, something not practical until all editing is done. Editing requires commitment, and Templates only give you one shot at synchronization.

Low-hanging fruit

While this idea might seem expensive or time-consuming, here's a start: Simply decrypt all element settings (fader, pan, Gain, FX Bin, PC-Channel, Sends, etc.) and outline them in a way so that external code can be used to edit the project files. This could be a read-writable section of the project, where any syntax errors will not affect loading of the file into Sonar, meanwhile can be reported.

It is possible (although unusual) to have the same midi track with notes (more likely phrases) in different midi channels.  This would go into a multi channel VST and play different patches.  So please keep the channel numbering. Sometimes it's convenient e.g. string library with no key switches.

Totally agree about the snap on CC - not just useless but annoying too.
