Hi Carl, Got mine today and figured I'd install it this evening. I'm excited and ready! Want to try that V Vocal thing on a song I really suck on! Open the package, slip the cd in the drive, click next, click OK fine I won't use it on more than one computer, click OK fine I won't sell the software, enter name, I need a serial number, look at nice yellow tag on the inside of the case that says serial number _____________, wtf it's blank! Call cake - cake is closed I'm left coast you're right coast. Check out the support page that says I'll get an email with the S/N on it. Double check email. No email about and S/N but I got one with order confirmation and tracking numbers??? Any ideas, there Carl? I know, I know, call 888-cakewalk in the morning, but I was hoping to blow off work, go to the beach or something after fixing those lousy vocals tonight. Oh well

My upgrade was delivered today! BTW, Carl, I also had a problem ordering online. The site refused to validate my credit card. I've read a number of similar reports so hopefully by now you're aware of the problem. I was a bit annoyed as even after the site refused to validate my carde I got an order "confirmation" email. I called the next day and the sales rep told me my order didn't process correctly. I gave my cc# number on the phone and was promised a real confirmation email. Never got it. Called again for a confirmation, got a verbal ok but still no email as promised (twice). Wrote to Customer Service via the website about the problem (at the time I was still unsure my order was actually being processed). The verbage on teh website promises a quick reply but I NEVER GOT ONE (still, and it's been 3 or 4 business days)! Called again and finally got a tracking number and the package did come today but you guys get an "F" for communications. I'm a CW customer since CW v4 for DOS. I only hope your tech support (which I haven't used in a long time) is better than your sales support. You guys are slipping up as you get bigger...

ORIGINAL: DFusion I bought Sonar 5 Studio Edition In middle of july and got a mail to buy Sonra 5 PE and recieve the Sonar 6PE for free when it is ready for €179 that means the sonar 5 studio edition to sonar 5PE will cost me €328 instead of €149+50 as promissed. Should i just wait until the Sonar 6 is released to upgrade? DFusion, Just to be clear, because you purchased SONAR 5 Studio Edition. the $50 upgrade for you will be to SONAR 6 Studio Edition, not SONAR 6 Producer Edition.

Oh well Leighton, every once and awhile ISPs will block emails from us, and we then need to straighten out with them that we are not spammers through their formal process. You don't happen to have a Verizon email address do you? We're currently working through this issue with them. If you call custmer service they can give you your serial number.

Well i was one of those folks who have regularly upgraded since professional 8 faithfully. I bought Sonar4 Producers Edition and the next month Sonar 5 came out. The price to upgrade from Sonar 3 is the same as sonar4 to get Sonar 5 producers editiion. So I decided to sit out of the Sonar 5 upgrade since I had other software that copensated for the Roland stuff. I was a little upset about having upgraded and then Cakewalk not giving me a break. now we are in the a similar situation. What I expect is that I will be able to upgrade is to get the same deal that was offered to Sonar 3 customers when I upgraded last. namely I expect to be able to upgrade to Sonar 6 producers edition from from Sonar 4 producers edition for the same price as Sonar 5. I do know that if I am penalized for sitting out the Sonar 5 upgrade then my upgrading days are over. I think the Sonar 5 upgrade was well worth it under any circumstances for the value of the co-evolutiionary reverb alone, but as a loyal customer I felt cheated when I upgraded (v4)and a month later they came out V5 and the sales dept said I was S.O.L. I do hope Cakewalk will allow me the same benefit as they did Sonar3 customers and have a mind blowing version of Sonar6 and I will go back to upgrading as usual, but if they change policy and I am penalized then will likely sit out another upgrade

You are right that I have sonar PE, I agree that the free upgrade from 5-6 is good idea, but I have no intention of going thru the hassle of installing v5PE and turning around and installing V6. I am still torked about upgrading last time to 4 and then having V5 come out within 30 days and basically the sales dept said that I would have up upgrade again. The money would have ment that I would have paid $180 for the 3-4PE upgrade and then within 30 days paid an additonal $180 to go to V6. so if I had upgraded I had paid $360 within 30 days and within that same time those that had not upgraded would have only had to pay $180. I felt cheated as a regular upgrader loyal customer. I do not have a pirated version (still don't). I also want to find out about V6PE before I upgrade. So to answer your quesiton. at this point there is no sense in hasseling with two grades, i will wait until V6 comes out. If for example they may drop the Co-reverb in V6 (they dropped Vsampler in V5) and if they did that it would be alot less valuable to me. I don't care if they drop the Lexicon Reverb as I don't use it. I think if Cakewalk had offered me the $50 upgrade that is available this month to go to V5 I would have been happy, considering that I would have gotten the new reverb and the Roland V efx, but they didn't. They said (sales dept) too bad that you didn't wait 30 days to upgrade. I think the subject of customer loyalty works both ways. Cakewalk with the exception of last year has always treated me well and I have been satisfied, if they choose to offer the same deal this year that they offered last year, then I am in, if they punish V4PE users for being stupid enough to upgrade just before unrolling the new product then I will likely not upgrade this year as well. Another thing to take in consideration is that Sonar 4PE is a pretty robust piece of software. It is a hassle upgrading, what I had to do to keep Vsample should be a sin. I have no desire to go thru the hassles of upgrading to V5 and then do it all over again with V6. I have most of the benefit of the Roland V efx with Yamaha software that came with my Yamaha i88x mike pre and I think that the Co-reverb is justification enough to buy V5. I didn't have a recording project last year to merit the upgrade, but this year will be very buys for recording. We all have our reasons, hope this answers the question for you and I hope that Cakewalk is fair to us

What hassle? It doesn't overwrite you other versions and a full install installs the "extras" which are probably gonna be different than what is in V6. I am still torked about upgrading last time to 4 and then having V5 come out within 30 days and basically the sales dept said that I would have up upgrade again. Dude, they have to put bounds on deals. It's not unfair...you just picked an unfortunate time to upgrade. Most of us who have been following the upgrade path for years know the pattern and wait for the "signs" of our preferred deal coming up. For example, I was a a pre-order for S5PE upgrade. I am waiting for the S6 pre-order option to be marketed(it is the next deal coming if the pattern holds) and if the new features/plugins are cool I'll probably jump on that. I just hope they have this web store BS fixed by then!

Hey Carl, thanks for all the info you're providing here! My question, again, is on the discount upgrade to Sonar 6 for those who bought in July. I bought the S5 Studio Edition through Power Studio (which I bought online in July, but didn't recieve until August...) and I just recieved an email from Cakewalk offering the "if you ugrade to 5 now you get 6 free later" deal. The thing is, I already have 5 so I was wondering how the deal applies to those customers who bought through Power Studio! Thanks

ORIGINAL: NW Smith I am still waiting to hear what features Sonar 6 will offer - then I will make my decision whether or not to take the plunge. THIS IS THE BIGGEST ISSUE While S5 has some interesting features I'd use, I am mostly interested in the features in 6 to see if it's worth it. Considering the upgrade price from 3 to 5 is the same as 4 to 5, the price of 4 to 6 might be the same as 5 to 6. And of course if I wait a year I can upgrade to 6 and get the upgrade to 7 free. So Cakewalk.... WHAT'S IN SONAR 6 STUDIO AND PRODUCER

....so a first-time buyer of Sonar 5 PE will get Sonar 5 for only $399 if he/she buys from Sweetwater or audiomidi.com? plus the free upgrade to Sonar 6 PE? That's a really fantastic deal! If this is so, why would anyone want to make a purchase at the online Cakewalk store, or is there an advantage to buying direct from Cakewalk? Well... For overseas customers (British in my case) we have to suffer the ravages of greedy distributors charging waay over the odds. We call our country "Rip-Off-Britain" and here's just such an example... Sonar 5PE from Cakewalk = $399 Sonar 5PE from Edirol (UK) = £369 (inc VAT) - See Sonar 5PE Price on Edirol OK so we remove the VAT from the equation, so from Edirol that's £314 So, without the VAT, Edirol (Cakewalk's UK distributors) are charging the equivalent of $595 !!!!!!! On price alone, it's not difficult to see why one might choose to buy from overseas. Add to this the dreaded next-to-useless European multi-lingual manual should you buy from Europe and that would settle any argument. Incidentally, I'm hoping to receive word from Cakewalk of my Dimension Pro order. I ordered from Cakewalk as they were charging $69 as a special customer price, though Edirol (UK) do not provide such an upgrade and are charging a mere £169 (minus the VAT, that's a tad over $272). See Dimension Pro price on Edirol While the upgrade pricing argument rages on, spare a thought for us poor cheated Brits All the best, Brendan. EDIT: Viscant - your price quote for new S5PE is wrong (i.e. actuually $799 for new customers), which appears to make the UK offer an attractive price. However, there's a great deal of disparity in pricing and offers between Cakewalk and distributors, so probably time to give overseas customers a fair deal as-well. Hopefully Cakewalk will eventually repond to my repeat requests for Dimension Pro shipping date - originally ordered on 2nd August <sigh>

Hey Carl, Who decides what manual people get? Is it by lottery or is there a rational reason to give some US customers the full printed manual and others the abridged, multi-language one? I'm considering shipping the upgrade back and disputting the CC charge since I was sent the wrong item!

top tier pricing

All I know is that if I don't get top tier pricing from Cakewalk to go from Sonar4PE then I likely will be done with upgrading. I have no pirated software, I worked to get my friends to buy Sonar and I have not let them use my old versions. It will be interesting to me to see if Cakewalk still values me as a customer. I have upgraded faithfully from Prof8 to sonar4PE. The problem for me and many others, is that my income is a fraction of what it used to be and so coming up with the money to upgrade is getting harder and harder. When Cakewalk told me I was SOL to upgrade 2 wks prior to the V5 upgrade, I took that in account. Loyalty works both ways. I know that if can't get top tier price from V4-6 as was offered to 3-5 customers then not only will I not be able to afford to upgrade but I will be looking at the competition (I get a student discount)

For Versions 4 and 5, I went the Studio, then Producer Upgrade route. I'm happy to have the upgrade pricing structure, the way it is for what it's worth. It's worth every penny to me.

ORIGINAL: gargonknight just phoned cakewalk and found out what could be the delay for uk delay in receiving sonar5 upgrade. my delay (and maybe many others) is because cakewalk is giving free shipping it seems the couriers are not been made aware of this, so they wont ship untill paid! As per usual cakewalk have now corrected this and i should get my upgrade anytime this week! can't wait! ......... glad i did this time as i get 6 frreee! ] i went from s1 xl to s3pro and to s4pro found the pricing a little bit high weel not high could of been better for loyalty. iwas not going to upgrade to 5 even though i loved evrything in the demo because of price to upgrade but the offer this time around was most tempting and too good to pass. the reason it delayed me buying was i also bought into fl6 and as you know with fruityloops you get free life time upgrades. fair do's you may not get all the instruments with free upgrades but they have to make money too and thats where they make their money back by you buying extra instruments or effects.
