3. You can order the boxed discs from Sweetwater. Cakewalk typically charges S&H on physical shipments. Sweetwater doesn't.

TabSel I would not offer a promise to do an even better album and charge upfront on a monthly subscription... That doesn't relate to the question you asked about why change if something is successful. That's the question I answered. I know you're not sold on the implementation of the change, but there's a reason why it was changed, and it was in the belief that it would produce a superior experience for the majority of SONAR users. Craig, we differ in views and opinions Not really, because... it's not you who might convince me by words to spend my money, it's cakewalk, who might convince by delivering.
As I've said many, many, many times in this thread, it's not up to the customers to renew. The onus is on Cakewalk to make them WANT to renew. I really don't see what you're saying as any different.

Copiague I have a few questions: 1. I have Sonar X3 and I have purchased the full versions of Addictive Drums 2, TH2, Melodyne, etc. Will the installation of Platinum let me bypass the installation of the "lite" versions of software I already own?
I installed last night, and the Command Center gives you buttons next to your products so you can choose which ones to update. For example I didn't update Melodye, Rapture. or Dimension Pro. TH2 Producer doesn't overwrite the full version, they're separate. Sorry, but I don't know the answers to your other questions.

Well if English isn't your native language, you do a lot better than some Americans. I always loved giving seminars in Sweden and Denmark because of their command of English. I asked a friend from Denmark why Danes speak English so well. He said "Well, no one speaks Danish."

When will we be able to buy this new Sonar? Also, how long will the $149 price be in effect? Forgive me if this has been addressed and I missed it in the deluge of posts and comments.

I don't get this at all and I feel quite unhappy about it. Firstly - I can't get X3 anymore? I was on X2 and was so disappointed how quickly X3 came out after shelling out for upgrades since 8.5 -> X1 -> X2. I thought I'd wait for X4. But a) no X4, and b) an annual subscription? What the ???? And I don't even have the option of upgrading to X3 any more... it's annual membership or get lost??? What's with the stupid names - "Platinum"? What version is that? I'm pretty unhappy about this. Might be time to learn a new product? Rest assured that you have not lost out on anything. Well, not that much anyway. What you think of as X4 is now just called Sonar. See here for details. It is the successor to X3 and you can upgrade to it for 50$, 100$ or 200$ depending on the versions involved in the upgrade. See here for those details (scroll down the page to Pricing). Unfortunately, Sonar is somewhat more expensive than X3 and you'll have to study up on it to determine what's best for you. Don't be put off by the term "subscription" flying around. You can pay for your upgrade in a single payment just like you've always done or, which is new this time around, you can pay for it in 12 instalments for a fee. Once it's paid for, you can use the program for the rest of your life. The first year you get updates for free, after that you have to pay for them. Sonar is not available yet, but rumor has it that it will be release on the 21st of this month.

There is no subscription. Its much as it always was. What CW is doing is trying to be faster with updates and patches. For the next 12 months you are entitled to all new additions and improvements CW rolls out. That is what the membership is all about. No subscription is used. When you buy Sonar you are offered a choice to pay the full amount for the upgrade as we have always done or pay monthly until its paid off. Either way you get the membership. As to the name its Sonar Platinum or Professional or Artist. Those are the versions. You can call it X4 if you like I may do that myself. Beside I used Logic Platinum 5 when it was cross platform and owned by Emagic. It didn't bother me that it was called that.

Geo524, what to you consider to be a subscription ? It think the term is usually associated with programs that you continually pay to use and when you stop paying, you can longer use the product. This is not the case with the new Sonar. Once you've paid for it, you can use it forever. After a year, you have to pay for updates, but that's the way it's always been with most programs. It may be worth your while to read a few pages of this thread as all the details are gone over in depth.

watercourse I have a question regarding ProChannel modules. I apologize if this was already asked and answered. I searched the thread and wasn't able to find my specific question. I currently have X3 Producer and am considering switching to the new Professional version (not Platinum). I understand that any separately purchased PC modules will show up in Professional, but what about PC modules included with X3 Producer that are not purchased separately and also not included in the default Professional version? I'm specifically referring to Breverb Sonar, PC76, PC4k bus compressor, Console Emulator, Tape Emulator and Tape Saturation. Since I 'own' these from X3 Producer, will they still be available to me if I switch to Professional? And, if I do get access to these modules within Professional, what is required to activate them? Does X3 need to be installed on the machine or does activation happen through the command center, etc.? Thanks in advance!
Hi Watercourse, Yes all your existing ProChannel plugins will work in SONAR Professional. You will also get the new REmatrix Solo.

This is not a subscription model. Please read the FAQ: http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SONAR/Membership SONAR X3 has been out for 15 months. You know eventually it will be updated, and it has with new version. SONAR X3 = SONAR Artist SONAR X3 Studio = SONAR Professional SONAR X3 Produer = SONAR Platinum If you want to buy an upgrade, our friends at GC still have it: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Cakewalk-SONAR-X3-Producer-Upgrade-from-SONAR-X2-Producer-Software-Download-109841619-i3455813.gc Lastly, this new model should work out nicely for you if you think about it. You never have to worry if buy a version only to have a newer one come out the next day. You could go buy X3 somewhere but let me ask you why you would do that? If you buy say SONAR Platinum for the same price of $149, you will get: - Everything in SONAR X3
- Everything announced in SONAR Platinum
- Plus 12 more months of new features and more
And you will own everything you receive. So explain to me how X3 is better? Maybe you can make me understand that logic. Thanks.

I just purchased the Platinum upgrade from JRRshop for 126.65. When Sonar Platinum is released I will own the software plus any upcoming updates & bug fixes for the next year. I previously purchased Sonar X3 in September 2013, and received updates & bug fixes thru the release of X3e, which came out in April of 2014 (I think). There have been no new updates since the X3e patch. The only difference I see is the fact that now Cakewalk will in effect Finance the purchase for a year for those who chose to do so. In the words of Aaron Rogers...everybody relax.

The $126,65 is for the update from Sonar X3 Producer. The " any sonar producer" is for the earlier producers.

You do realize that X3 would have been unavailable for purchase from Cakewalk even if they went to the traditional "X4" under the old model? Waiting to upgrade always holds the risk of missing a version. It also saddens me that after 37 pages, people are still either unwilling to read or unable to comprehend that they still have the option to outright buy the upgrade . So most of your complaint is based on inaccurate information, distortions and projection of what you think may happen down the line.

The $149 price is for the "X3 Producer to Platinum" upgrade. It's a different purchase than the "Any Sonar Producer" which is $199. If you are upgrading from X3 Producer....when you add it to your cart, it will discount it 15%. If you put "group" in the coupon code box...it will discount it another 1%...or 16% total. Edited to add: This is on the JRRShop site.

I for one will not be upgrading until Cakewalk adds back in what they took out of Sonar X2. They removed the ability to automatically color your clip background colors. I barely can see the dark grey clips on the dark grey background. I know you can change them in the Inspector, but: A) you have to do it manually for each track, B) record more clips or bounce the clips, and the colors revert. Wouldn't it make more sense to have them automatically colored by track # (same as how they do it for the midi note/audio waveform colors?) It's like they literally sucked that feature out of Sonar X3. For now, I am using Duckbar, but Panu said that he won't even be touching the new Sonar until at least the summer, so because Cakewalk likes to REMOVE options from their software, they lose out on my money. Seems like such a little detail, but it's not. After a long time working on the DAW, the grey on grey hurts my eyes and causes me to lose focus of what's going on. Especially working with MIDI since the notes are small. What is easier to look at: THIS? OR THIS? So until Cakewalk puts this ability back into the product - which THEY removed, I will be keeping my money. -Alewgro

I'm getting mildly offended by the attitudes of some posters in this thread the past couple of days. There are people who like the new sales model and people who don't, or like me have some reservations. Those who like the new system are frequently addressing the rest of us as if we simply don't understand it -- we are too lazy to read the FAQ or too stupid to "get it." I urge you (it's not all of you, but you know who you are) to get over it. Please, you nice people who are simply trying to explain the new system in neutral terms -- you know I'm not talking to you.
