Man, this is the first time I've felt excited about NI for YEARS. Makes me want to stop what I'm doing and fire up the main DAW this second. Looks like even old-school x86 guys will benefit, by a much more efficient use of memory. Wow! Everyone benefits with this one. Nice work, indeed.

And don't forget: True Multiprocessor Support I've always thought that the move to 64bit and processor scaling should happen alongside each other, and Kontakt 3.5 definitely took this path. ORIGINAL: cmusicmaker Great news about Kontakt 3.5! It may be time for me to get it. Thanks for the heads up guys. More x64 TLC. Not sure if this has been posted already but PSP's rather excellent sQuad EQ plugins have x64 versions in Beta. It says they use 64 bit floating point math but that doesn't necesarily make 'em 64 bit native. Are you using these plugins? If you can confirm that they are indeed 64 bit native then I'll gladly include them under the native 64 bit plugins list in the OP of this thread. Thanks!

Sorry Jose I guess my post did come across as referring to the Spec sheet for the plugs, but I was defintely not referring to the 64 bit double precision floating point internal computations/calculations that the plugins use, that is not what I meant. They are definitely x64 as in native x64 OS versions (No bit bridge or J bridge needed). I should have added that when I attempted to download the x86 versions of the plugs in my PSP account, I saw another link for the PSP sQuad "hide beta versions" Out of curiosity I decided to see whats in there. What I then saw was x64 versions of the PSP sQuad available for download for the "PC x64 platform". They were available for me to download so I pulled them down to my hard drive and installed them ... No idea when they are coming out of beta but they already contain fixes for the previous version and so far appear to work very well in Sonar x64. Definitely native x64 PSP sQuad plugs (all 4 of them) but still in beta for now.

ORIGINAL: Freddie H Native Instruments, EastWest, Vienna,Spectrasonics, Voxengo and Izotope's and so on are all 64bit VST and some direct X applications too. FULL NATIVE 64bit apps! Regards Freddie Which Spectrasonics is 64 bit? I installed Omnisphere. It is 32 bit using Bitbridge on Vista x64. It has some slowness issues using Bitbridge that other VST's don'e have. When I click on a track with Omnisphere, there is a long delay until it becomes the selected track. The synth plays fine through Bitbridge. But the long delay during selected track changes is a nuisance that my other 32 bit synths don't have.

syntheticpop will 32bit plugins run on a 64bit system? Some will and some won't. In the case of VSTs and VSTis it depends on the plugin we're talking about (but most will work with Bitbridge though). In the case of DX and DXis, the answer is NO. Those need to be native 64 bit in order for them to show up in Sonar. However, it is possible to use the 32 bit version of Sonar under a 64 bit OS and all your plugins will work just as before. HTH

At least there's the option of using the 32 bit plugins in the 32 bit version of Sonar under a 64 bit OS. Will Project 5 be able to run in the 64 bit OS or will it only run within the 32 bit version of Sonar? What's Bitbridge? does that have to do with the new i7 processors?

HTH Is there an option to toggle between 32 and 64 bit? Like say, holding down a certain key while the OS boots will load the 32 bit version of Windows. No, but you can always dual-boot. That way you can choose which OS you want to boot into. However, it is a much better solution to just install both versions of Sonar (x86 and x64) instead. It just depends on what you want to do. Will Project 5 be able to run in the 64 bit OS or will it only run within the 32 bit version of Sonar? I'm not sure about that. All I know is that Project 5 won't rewire into Sonar x64. What's Bitbridge? does that have to do with the new i7 processors? Bitbridge is the technology implemented by Cakewalk that enables certain 32 bit plugins to be used in the 64 bit version of Sonar. It has nothing to do with Core i7 processors. More info can be found here: http://forum.cakewalk.com...35&high=64+bit+FAQ

I am reading an interesting book right now on mastering. (‘Mastering Audio’ by Bob Katz) The thing I am really getting here is how important it is to record in 24 bit. There are just so many advantages. There are many problems when trying to record audio at too high a level and near the top of the range especially in 16 bit. (Did you know that you can drop a 24 bit recording down 48 db to get the same signal to noise ratio as 16 Bit!) And also the problems of quantization noise every time you perform digital processes like normalising etc. Too much of this should be avoided. Sample rate is important but even 44.1 Khz is fine. Bit depth is very important if not more so. Even if the final product is a lower resolution than this we know to dither down at the last minute. 32 bit processes like synths and effects are OK especially if they are acting on individual channels. It is the mix buss that things get complicated. When two or more 24 bit words are being processed you need at least 48 bit resolution internally in the mix buss. This is where 32 bit systems are a bit short, and why 64 bit processing is so good. The 64 bit version of Sonar running on a 64 bit operating system will do the job the best. You need true 64 bit res for the mix buss. It is also mastering that the 64 bit technology is also very important with high res calculations taking place in multiband compressors and fine EQ’s. (It is great that the 32 bit version of Sonar can perform some of these mastering processes in 64 bit) So thanks to those who are passionate about 64 bit and bringing it to our attention. We need to strive for this in the long term because it is 64 bit that will ultimately give us the fine quality we are after at the end.

someone mentioned downloading Jbridge which will make 32bit plugins compatible with a 64bit OS. Does this mean that I don't need to install the 32bit version of Sonar if I plan on using JBridge? One of my worries is that Project 5 won't work under the 64 bit version of Sonar but hopefully JBridge will have them rewired.

Unfortunately I could not get JBridge to recognise my synchrosoft dongle plugins without crashing. All the other serial number activation ones seemed to work without a problem though. I just wish bitbridge or JBridge would not hang on my Korg Legacy collection stuff, then I really could go 64-bit Sonar.
