World War Me

Hey, I did a quick remix of this today -- different volume levels, reverb & such -- here's my demo of my new song World War Me...

Nice tune Allan. I would cut out the panning on the background vox though. That was kind of distracting for me.

I'd just add that the whole thing could stand to be more robust. All the bits are locked in pretty well...but it seems a bit bass light overall, not just the bass guitar. Maybe like an eq on the stereo bus that just lifts the whole bass end up a bit more, and then adjust the high freeqs as needed once the bass is more robust. How do you do your drums?

Re: FUD 2018/06/26 19:57:02 (permalink)
Some random thoughts not necessarily apropos of this thread:

Many bedroom producers are stricken by "bedroom master producer syndrome" (BMPS) and begin to believe that their demos are now master works ready to be presented to the public and sold over the internet alongside more established and more fully produced works.  To avoid this pitfall, we have to continually ask:

Is this demo anywhere near ready for the market to compete against commercial masters?  Would I be proud to present as the final product of the work  -- is it absolutely the best I can do?  Would successful producers see this work as a "master" work?

Does my "master" sparkle and shine like other great recordings of the past or the present?  Does it immediately reach out and grab the listener?  Does it have staying power?

Would my "master" be more polished if I did not perform all of the instruments?  If I used other musicians with more technical expertise, would the end result be more "masterful"?  Am I really an accomplished engineer or producer?

Another pitfall we need to overcome is the opinion of other bedroom producers who were suffering (probably unknowingly) from BMPS.  Often, their criticisms of others' demos are ill-conceived or misplaced because they misunderstood the meaning of master as opposed to demo.  (And, of course, from time to time we all hear "masters" of bad songs with banal performances and such.)

As for me, I am without a producer or musical collaborators, I had to come to terms with my situation.  I realized that with my hundreds of song projects waiting to be produced, I would have to be satisfied with creating demos.  Like the overwhelming majority of bedroom producers, I lack the technical expertise to produce masters.  And, I don't have the time or interest to attempt to learn to do so because I'd rather write more songs and create more demos for some of them.

Others are welcome to believe what they want, however...

For my bit, I think the arrangement and lyrics were great and sorry Bill I don't agree, they should be panned it makes the chorus stand out on it's own ... downside was the vocal for me, a little out of tune at times ... but that said I really like this one, very clever.
Thanks for the share well worth the listen

I don't mind them being panned a little to one side or the other. In fact, I think that's a good thing. I just don't care for any kind of ping-ponging back and forth. I don't mind it for a few seconds. I've done it myself. I don't like it to go on for much longer than that though or it starts to bug me. To me it's like going to see a movie and having somebody running back and forth across the front of the screen waving a flag. It's probably just me. I don't like hot-fudge-sundaes with cherries on top either, so....

Very nice, Allan.  I liked the panning, I felt it added to the effect of being at war with yourself.

Hey John, thanks -- glad you like the lyrics -- I  always give a lot of thought to lyrics what with rewriting and whatnot -- down with the prosaic and all that.  Same with my demos -- many mixes to achieve the best demo I can of any given song.
